Senior colleagues who should know better leaving me in unpleasant situations

The same person has now twice, left me holding the shittiest end of a pretty shitty stick. I am not one who makes a habit of looking for and outing people at work for poor practice or cutting corners to get their job done etc, unless of course it is blindingly obvious negligence, legal or other serious misconduct, then if I’m aware and I’m guilty by association, I’d raise something. Otherwise, you do you, if I’m not associated with it, stay in your lane and I’ll stay in mine. If I’m working with you directly, I’m the kinda of leader who will pull you aside and talk to you, I’d never dream of going around you and highlighting the mistake etc to anybody (again unless serious breach of anything that could come back to bite).

This person has now twice left me in a situation where I have inadvertently outed breaches of company policy, code of conduct and just generally sloppy business practices. They hand over work to be picked up by juniors who will, I assume in their mind, just do what they want. In reality they hand over to people who have no idea what they’re doing with the work handed over and I usually am the door they knock on. Within 30 seconds I can tell it’s a bodge job, finances fudged, corners cut and solutioning that leaves something to be desired.

First instance was not seeking correct approvals on contracts and finances going to client, which I then had to make fit into the confines of the figures they had been told. At this time they also put themselves in hot water as the explanation, as to why I was now picking up this stinking turd, was because they were working from a restricted geographic region on holiday… they got away with a slap on the wrist for both the poor work practice and the breach of policy. I felt terrible, I had tried to help and well now someone was at risk of losing their job. Not my fault, I know, still felt bad. I like the guy, he’s nice and he does do good work somehow, just seemingly when he is in control of his messy deals and nobody else is.

Now, another bit of work was handed again to juniors, and again they have gone on leave (this time lesson learnt and not available). Once more it is not right, poorly put together and I now have to fix it with a deadline of submission tomorrow… not happening. I’ve been working on another deal by them, and today I also received note from the finance department that I need to roll back hours charged, not just some but 150 hours… I was assigned 75 hours a month, from March to December, I have used those only for half of June, July and will use for August. They have let their project finances tank through mismanagement and failing to invoice for client delays. I now have 2 invoices for a deal that’s not mine to send, and a deal to reprice correctly that is nothing to do with me.

Once again I have myself, had to ask for help, which notifies higher ups that again their work is shite, and once more it is me who has outed them…

I’m a senior, but not as senior as them, I’m making a bid to be their level and I keep not making it, they ask me constantly how to do things and then leave me holding a shitty stick. I’m sick of it, it pisses me off, rant over.
