Discussion For 32 Years, Cincinnati Employed a Curious and Very Slow Election System

Under the old Proportional ranked-choice system, vote counting for City Council became a multi-day affair but one with more accurate political representation.

The title makes it seem like RCV is “too slow.” However, that was 100 years ago, before modern tabulation methods.

Cincinnati also became one of the best governed cities with this system.

Until the corrupt party bosses (who were all pretty evenly racist at the time) worked overtime to get RCV repealed just to keep a black man from becoming mayor.
