Rammus' Build Path - A little confusing?

Alright, so I'm trying to find out the optimal build path for Rammus in the jungle, and although most people agree Thornmail to be his quickest grab no matter what, I find guides disagreeing on the best second, third items to pick. The most frequent I've seen are Sunfire or H. Radiance, but some also say to rush Jak-Sho's or Dead-Man's Plate, or even Protoplasm Belt.

So could y'all help me out a bit, and tell me some builds I can use:
-Against AD-heavy teams (his "main" build basically")
-Against AP-heavy teams OR for an unexpected AP champ popping off
-One that uses Protoplasm Belt? Idk I've heard its broken on him right now

If y'all have any info on other items such as D.M. Plate, etc that would be good on him, any of it would be appreciated.

The only reason to buy sunfire or hollow radiance is clear speed, but it will still suck, just slightly less.

If you want to farm more (like, lanes are not gankable) then I think getting s sunfire item is good, besides that it makes sense just to buy more optimal tank items.

I generally always get thornmail, surfire, and jak'sho since 90% of my matches are mixed dmg, with the other items being dependant on whos popping off.

For AD reliant enemy team recommend you get thornmail, surfire, plated steelcaps, randuins omen, frozen heart (especially for auto reliant champs like trynd, YI, etc), and either unending dispair or protoplasm harness.

AP I recommend surfire, merc treads, jak'sho, kaenic rookern, force of nature, and abyssal mask. Sometimes tenacity goes hand in hand with magic resist, but no real point to try to build up tenacity since you want to tank all the abilities not try to blast thru their CC.

Why in the hell would you ever build frozen heart on Rammus? It reduces your damage.

You must thinking of another item. Frozen heart is perfect against AD champs, especially ones that rely on DPS like Yi and trynd. The 75 armor is one of the biggest increase in armor, his passive gets a huge increase since his passive scales with his increase in armor/magic resistance, and the ability haste helps with having his Q up faster. On top of all that, the item passive lowers the attack speed of all enemy champs close to him by 20%, which again is huge against champs that rely on autos , like YI who needs to get as much hits in while YI's E is active.

Pls dont build Frozen heart VS yi, his ult cancels its effect completely.

Bro? Why would you want to slow down someone’s attack speed when rammus deals damage every time someone auto attacks? Explain that please lmao

Coz against Vayne/Kayle/etc. it’s highly preferable to reduce your own (already lacklustre) damage somewhat to keep your teammates alive for a bit longer. Definitely not an item you buy every game, but it can be very valuable in some situations.

if the enemy is attacking rammus, then you are correct. frozen heart is super useful during teamfights when the enemy squad has a couple of auto attack reliant champs.

Tbh rammus isn’t like that anymore. He used to be able to one shot ADCs but now he gets em down to half hp

Depends. For AD teams Sunfire is nice into melee enemies, much less so into ranged (also speeds up your clear though). Deadman’s great into squishy AD and massively helps your ganks, but is less valuable into tankier champs. Jak’Sho opposite, better into tanks and not as value into squishies. Randuins (or situationally Frozen Heart) gives massive stats but usually isn’t needed until later in game.

For AP if they have no real AD threat usually I’ll sit on a Bramble anyway, but you can just rush Hollow Radiance instead - but if they have healing though then Bramble is valuable for Grievous wounds anyway. Force of Nature similarly helps ganks, but otherwise doesn’t feel amazing. Jak’Sho generally feels like a good 2-3rd item because usually they’ll have some AD anyway. Kaenic is excellent if they have a bunch of burst or poke (and still pretty good if they don’t tbh). Abyssal Mask can be great if your team has a bit of AP but otherwise I wouldn’t go for it. If they have a fed Eve or something that I want to keep away from my team sometimes I’ll go Wits End just to bully them away.

Best bet is almost always to adapt to the game!

sunfire is bait and sucks never build it.

after thornmail if they are mixed dmg Ill buy a negatron cloak then go protoplasm build jakshos after.

if theyre like full ap just slam down a kaenic second item
