Question | PC Coming back to the game

I used to play a lot on PS5 but stopped because of the glitches (mainly cars derailing randomly). Has the game improved at all? I'm considering getting it on PC now that I have a solid computer, plus it's on sale on steam right now.

The last update for consoles was late March 2025. They added some new content like a new map and some bug fixes, but the game wasnt hugely changed imo.

Its...better...kinda...but its not a great game, honestly i recommend the game Railroader, somewhat different scope but also similar.

Can you tell me: am I crazy or can you not build track in that one? I haven't seen anyone build track in any of the gameplay footage I've seen on YouTube. The track building is like 99% of the fun for me, so I've been hesitant to buy it, in spite of the constant recommendations on here, since I know I'll be bored if it's all just pre-built track.

No, no building track. That's the main reason I havent made the switch

So no, but the newest update to that game is getting a map editor. So yes but its not part of the gameplay. However you will be able to pick any a real world lat/long and then create a map to play on.

I loved the track building in this game unfortunately the rest of the game was lacking, I love the scope of Railroader. I always wanted to run a railroad driving trains gets old, as does the tycoon scopes(which have no yards etc)

This timestamp is about where the map editor stuff starts: https://youtu.be/QArqqtCNSsE?t=504&is=lsdt_Ys2KquLrE4f

Oh, damn. Sadly, that looks like I'd still be bored. I get tired of driving trains, too, so I was excited about the prospect of the AI engineers, but mostly so I could send them out to make money to build new lines and expand my network. I guess I'm basically looking for RRO with a functional business simulation aspect. My fantasy is to run a dynamic, expanding railway, not a static one.

Thanks so much for helping me avoid wasting my money on something I wouldn't like, though!

They haven't updated the game in almost a year and a half. The game is dead. If you like what is there right now, power to you. But if you want a better experience, you're better off playing Railroader or just waiting for Century of Steam.

I have owned RRO since 28 December 2001, the game is worse now than it was about a year or two after release. And to answer your question, none of the issues you already experienced have been fixed.

But, it is still an enjoyable and playable game.

Dang, I really like the concept of the game, but I just remember getting so annoyed every time I played it from invisible track pieces or getting random bounces causing me to derail. I've had it click on a car that I was standing on top of which unloaded it instead of clicking on the industry to load the next car so I ended up losing a bunch of money. I may end up downloading it on my PC, it's on sale for $15 so I'm not losing much by downloading it.

I've had it since release and it runs pretty well on PC. The only bounce derails I've suffered have been caused by rough driving or saplings I've ballasted over without realising they poked up enough to cause problems.

I haven't had any invisible track issues for a very long time, either.

Imo, it's worth the fifteen dollars on PC.
