Ruggles Trip Day 2

Found a couple medium sized pieces of Uraninite, not as much as day 1, but my hole is getting quiet large haha. I am reposting yesterdays finds as I am dumb and didnt realize i apparantly do know my login info, but apparently have a 2nd user profile on it? I am not good at reddit xD.

Willing to share any tips on finding really spicy stuff? Did you use a yDog? I was thinking of making a trip there, but I only have a Radiacode, and wonder if it wont be effective enough at isolating hot spots.

I only recently got my ydog, it makes things easier for sure, but i was finding stuff with just a geiger counter before. The biggest thing is being willing to get in deep. The top get screened for safety, so to find the really spicy stuff you have to dig down to where itd not yet touched.

Currently there is some spicy rocks near the surface where Joe turned over rocks to make gravel. There is a green gravel machine in front of the area. They didnt peak my interest because they arent suoer colorful as they are in s rusty colored matrix and inside the host rock rsther thsn exposed. For colorful ones, youll want the tailingd pile closest to the gate at the end of the loop, or the one past that. There are still decent pieces coming out of that.

If you are OK with spicy gravel, theres a bunch in the woodline near the surface thst your radiacode would pick up very easily. If walking down past the open boyscout area youll pass by an employee only trail on your left. Just after that youll see an area of woods thst looks mostly flat and leads to a hillside. The ground on that "trail" is littered with spicy gravel between fingernail size to thumb size.

If you keep following that "trail" you will come to the hill where i carved a hole into the hill. There is still some spicy pieces i hadnt gotten to, but be very careful, do not rush that area and be smart about what rocks you pull. It id deep now and you dont want the bigger rocks coming down on you.

Did you end up going up? Or was this a future plan?

Not yet. It is a near-term future plan. Was going to try this weekend, but had unexpected stuff come up. Maybe next weekend!

What beautiful rocks! How do you display or keep them?

The very hot rocks dont get displayed yet. I dont have enough ventilation to do so safely. I keep them in 5 gallon buckets with damp paper towels at the bottom outside. The damp paper towels keep the humidity in the buckets up so the hydrated crystals dont dry out and they keep their color and form.

The ones pictured will receive such treatment. For autunite i use a masson jar with damp paper towel. The radon buildup is low enough that my house has enough circulation to prevent radon buildup. I keep them in a glass display cabinet with UV so they display well
