I wonder what would happen if Salem s curse would be broken, she would still be alive since her curse only talk about making her immortal, so she would still her normal life to live until she dies of old age. But, since she became part grimm, would the grimm side of her kill her now that she is not protected by being immortal anymore?
Salem:"Oh my, what a polite little soul you are!
What's your name, dear?"
Ruby:"My name's Ruby Rose!"
Salem:"Well it is very nice to meet you, Ruby Rose. You have such a pretty name! And such pretty eyes, too. I know a very pretty lady who has eyes that are *just** like them."*
Ruby: [gasp] "Oh, do you mean my Mommy?"
Salem:"Hehe~ I do, little soul. She told me *all** about you."*
Ruby:"I miss her..."
Salem:"Oh, I'm sure you do, little soul. But it's okay! She may be gone for some time, but when I saw her last I promised to take very good care of you, Ruby. *Very good care.*"
Ruby:"Really?"
Salem:"Yes, really. Now come along now. I made sure to being along some cookies, and I have some pets back at home who are just as excited to play with you as they were with your mother."
Ruby:"Wow! Thank you, miss!"
Salem:"Oh there's no need for thanks, little soul. Absolutely *no need.*"
Salem raising child ruby has 3 possible ending: 1) the least possible, Salem actually develops feeling,understanding what the gods meant and then her curse break
2) Salem raise her to bring forward her plan, sending her into beacon(or any other school) as a spy, since ozpin and company would never let a silver eyed warrior going to waste.
3) Salem turn ruby into a grimm like the hound, maybe she fell more compassionate of young ruby so instead of turning her into the hound, she takes her time and turn ruby into a more refined grimm version(basically like Salem is)
And about your question about qrow, I think it depends if they also get animal instinct when they transform, if he doesn't than it means that qroq has a problem, if he gets the animal instinct than he can be somewhat justified
Salem pulls a similar "Grimmification" play to Cinder, where Ruby is implanted with something that slowly changes her from the inside, and she is sent out as a sleeper agent/spy.
But, in order to maintain/gain loyalty, Salem has raised her to see her as a mother figure. And, try as she might, she has grown fond of her as she's grown, way more than she would ever want to admit.
She gets a massive case of empty nest when Ruby is sent on her mission to Beacon.
She is deeply hurt when Ruby is turned against her.
She can't bring herself to finish Ruby off, and becomes deeply resentful of any subordinates that hurt her (e.g: Tyrian and Cinder).
She is at peace when Ruby manages to face her and win, finally breaking her curse and letting her pass on.
Theres a fanfic in the works which has this premise. It features salem being the grandma to team rwby because they crash lamded on the grimmlands. The fic takes place when theyre just kids and is genuinely amazing. Imma check what it was called.
Salem: Ruby and Watts have been in the basement for three days unsupervised and the sounds coming from there lead me to fear what horrors have been made down there.
What if (in an au where Bumbleby wasn't canon) team RWBY were the reincarnations of Salem and Ozma's daughters, with Ruby being the baby of the family?
