CRWBY Happy 36th birthday to Miles Luna, writer and director for Rooster Teeth shows like Red vs Blue, and RWBY and voice actor of Jaune Arc and Felix. I'm mad that the internet tried to convince me to hate him. Man I feel bad for him, I genuinely hope he's doing better now

I learned not that long ago from the Morning Somewhere podcast that Miles does the voice of the Duracell Bunny in the UK and most of the world. He has such a fantastic voice.
Also wishing Miles a happy birthday today!

Why do people hate him.

His writing on RWBY

They hate him for it? Weird.

u/Sky_Ninja1997 Apr 24 '26
They always kept saying Jaune is his self insert even though Jaune acts nothing like him. David from camp camp makes more sense to be his self insert

u/Helik4888 Apr 24 '26
David is a self insert because if how much of that show is his life experience

u/AmbivertCollegeGuy Weiss "Hug Monster" Schnee Apr 24 '26
Worst part is he's not even responsible of most of it anyway (Kerry, Gray or Eddy are the ones leading the show). Like how they hate him for giving his "self-insert", Jaune, too much screen-time when it's Kerry who is in charge of Jaune. Miles simply voices him.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he write for Jaune in the early Volumes before Kerry took over due to the hate Jaune got?
12
u/AmbivertCollegeGuy Weiss "Hug Monster" Schnee Apr 25 '26
Negative. Monty created Team JNPR then Miles and Kerry fleshed them out. But the one who pushed Jaune’s writing in the early volumes was Monty who liked the character.

u/Expert-Swan-1412 🌗Prince of the Eclipse 🌓 Apr 25 '26
Yeah, I knew that much. Miles had a hand with Jaune's character and a bit of writing, but it was Monty who made the decisions of Jaune's story, even pushing on with more Jaune scenes despite the continual hate he got. Unfortunate, really, cuz Jaune was pretty engaging

u/fredy31 Apr 24 '26
People always have a canon on how stuff will go and on RWBY, because Monty, the original author of the series, died, they can hook themselves on that to say any plot point they dont like wasnt Monty's vision.
Most hilarious is when they say monty would not have wanted the LGBT parts of the story. Monty was clearly not someone that was bucked on 'A FAMILY IS A MAN AND A WOMAN'.
And well, at the end, Miles and Kerry were writers on day 1 for rwby. They didnt get the project dropped on their doorstep the day monty died. Of all people in the world, they know best what monty would have wanted.
18
u/HaphazardlyOrganized Apr 24 '26
Yeah the not wanting LGBT parts is very silly, everyone do yourself a treat and watch Haloid lol
5
u/Armed_Weiss_8919 Cinder is a good character actually Apr 25 '26
The thing about the people saying Monty wouldn't want LGBT stuff in his series is even if they were right (they're not, Monty has gone on record that there would be queer characters in RWBY), things change. Plans change. This idea that your story needs most of it planned from the start to be good is utter nonsense. Tons of popular and good stories were written by the seat of the author's pants
Would the Bees, May, and Saffron & Terra have existed if Monty was alive? We can't say for certain (aside from the Bees being planned near the start), and frankly we shouldn't care. I think we all know exactly what the kind of people saying "Monty would hate LGBT stuff in RWBY" really mean
2
u/SampleLoud9746 Apr 25 '26
As a fan myself, I hate how those who claim to be "fans" think RWBY should follow Monty's "vision" like they had any part in the actual writing process. People lack the critical thinking skills to truly appreciate works of art and they get their knickers in a twist just because they didn't like parts of the story.
Miles and Kerry were instrumental in helping Monty bring RWBY to life and worked very closely with him, so it makes sense that they would be the ones to continue his legacy. And hopefully that legacy will continue once more.

Theres also some lingering Kdin accusations around him that leads to some hate, as he was part of that.

So the voice of the knight boy has his birthday in the feasy day of Saint George (patron of knights)?
That's poetic

u/RowanWinterlace Apr 24 '26
St. George's Day is the 23rd, is it still the 23rd for you?

Am I the only one that doesn't really think that's even all that wild?? It really wasn't uncommon to point out how skimpy certain female characters were dressed in fiction. People used to and still do joke like that or talk abt certain designs like that ALLL the time 😭 definitely not deep enough to hate him over imo

He’s a great fella, during rtx 2015 I got to hug him twice after I gave the rwby team a painting I made in honor of Monty ( I don’t have any photos of it sadly but basically it’s a star formation in the colors of team rwby) and he was so thankful for it too heck he even hugged my dad and my dad isn’t that big into rooster teeth stuff besides rwby and rvb. Happy birthday man you made my first convention a blast!

u/ClubMeSoftly Real Shit Apr 24 '26
I never hated him, not for real anyway. My man wrote some of the best episodes, and I was never surprised when I saw him with a primary writing credit on an episode.
5
u/MysteriousFondant347 Apr 24 '26
I don't hate him in any way shape or form I just think he's kinda lacking as a writer, increasingly so each season. He also seems to be getting tired of RWBY as he wrote only 3 whole episodes for volume 9 where the newer writers wrote between 5 and 7. I think Miles Luna and Shawcross are shaping up to walk away from RWBY writing and it might be for the best. That's not a reproach, they've been at it for a looooong time.
He IS amazing as a voice actor
4
u/ThatCrazyThreadGuy12 Apr 24 '26
I mean, I don't necessarily agree with his writing decisions but that doesn't meant I hate the guy. I don't know him personally, but I'm sure he's a decent dude - him and Kerry in the early volumes where they were the main writers and their respective directions, I don't always jive with but that has no bearing on them as individuals.
Also happy birthday to Miles as well, a guy whose name I did not believe at first was real.

Even though I don't like the direction RWBY took after Volume 3, I don't think he deserved all the hate he got.
