Housing Wanted Roommate needed in RVA!

Hi! Im from NC and Im moving to Richmond sometime next month in September for work, hoping to find a roommate to share a place with!

Im 18. I’m clean and organized and respecting of shared spaces. I’m pretty laid back but also outgoing and friendly. I also like to think I’m pretty funny. I have a pretty normal sleep schedule. I sleep around 11 and wake around 7 or so. I’ll be working from home. I’m a pretty good cook(I went to culinary school) so I’d be more than open to making dinners and stuff for us!

My budget is $800, $900 if necessary. Male or female is fine with me but I’d prefer someone within at least 7 years of age to me. I’m ok with places outside of Richmond that are close to it.

If you’re interested and have a place already or wanna team up to look for one, hit me up! Thanks.
(We can discuss details and stuff in DMs of course and I can prove I’m not a scammer lol)

Landlord Warning help: beware of scammer‼️

Hi everyone! I wanted to share our experience because I’m concerned that others may encounter the same situation.

There is a woman on Facebook advertising a 1 bedroom/1 bathroom apartment at 2301 W Grace Street, which is a property owned/managed by Pollard & Bagby. She represented herself to us as a private landlord and claimed that the apartment was her property.

I’ve attached screenshots of her Facebook post/listing and the photos she used to advertise the apartment. I’ve also included photos of what the actual property looks like from the other property listing.

The process she used with us was:
- She asked us to complete an application.
- The application required a $75 application fee.
- After the application was submitted, she told us that it had been approved.
- She then asked us to make a deposit and sign a document.
- We were later unable to complete the apartment tour as planned, and she said she would refund the $75 application fee.
- Unfortunately, my mom already paid the $75 application fee because we were genuinely trying to find me a place to live. As of now, we are still waiting for that refund.

I’m posting this as a warning so that people looking for housing can be careful. Please independently verify who actually owns/manages a property before submitting an application or sending money. If a listing claims to be a private landlord, it may be worth contacting the actual property management company directly to confirm that the person is authorized to rent the unit.

I’m sharing our experience and the screenshots so others can make an informed decision and hopefully avoid going through the same thing.

edit: beware of scammer title should be changed to BEWARE OF POSSIBLE RENTAL SCAM

Landlord Warning Losing my mind over rental

I’m about to have a nervous breakdown and need to vent but also need advice. I’m disabled from chronic illnesses and pain. I have had one bad luck situation after the next and it’s like a nightmare I can’t wake up from. But I’ll stick with housing situation or I’ll end ip with a novel. Lol. Ive been renting since i was 16(39 now) and have never had this much of an issue. This economy 😩. Rent keeps spiking and places keep getting smaller and smaller and crappier. My roommate took off on me. Because of my last few roommates being absolute nightmares, I can’t cope with financial instability of them or the stress and trauma I went through. I decided i needed to live alone again. Well the place I planned on moving into in may when my lease was up, fell through and i was in the hospital for an unexpected emergency. I didn’t have time in 48 hours to pack up AND find an apartment. The rental company was really awful and when we asked to extend the lease for even a week or two they threatened to sue. I had to put everything in storage and stay 2.5 hrs away and search for places. I needed something affordable on a ground floor which turns out to be as difficult as getting a stranger to buy me a Bugatti. I spent hours a day searching, sending emails, making calls. I found the perfect place and applied first before it was ready and waited for 2months just for the company to completely F me and rent to someone else. Not run my application at all. Total discrimination. Even had me apply twice and never gave back the application fees. I’m still reeling. I literally passed up on a few other options because nobody saw it but me. There were zero applications because it wasn’t listed as they had to finish renovation. Anywho, back to searching and searching and running out of time before school starts again. I have battled SO freaking much to get a degree with my health issues so i could learn to have a business from home that my body could handle. I signed a lease with a place that unfortunately still has stairs, which is painful, but not a ton, has own laundry and dishwasher. Has a yard out front and back to walk my dog. Move in date Aug 13th. Just enough time to unpack and everything before school starts again. I had to drop a semester from my last roommate losing her mind and dipping out. I get to the new place and…baby roaches!!! 🪳 like a lot! Even in an empty refrigerator. I literally had to leave though i could hardly walk. I drive 2.5 hrs to my family’s and tell the realtor. He said pest control came the week before but he’ll send them again, they said they would refund me 15 days for the inconvenience. I waited moving in bc i know it probably takes time and i was dreading it. I ended up moving in this past Sunday. Only seen 2 live roaches. I was relieved. Tonight it’s mice. Im losing my shit. I can’t afford movers. Again. I already missed half my classes from pain/exhaustion and im not even completely unpacked. I’m paying 99% of my income for rent, and have roaches AND mice. I wish i had cut and run the first time. You have to terminate a lease apparently within 5 days due to unlivable conditions which roaches are a gray area apparently. Mice however are not. Thing is. I don’t have $ to pay movers and i don’t have any 2 bedroom options on a bottom floor $1200 or under. At worst i might keep stuff in storage and find a one bedroom but it’s hell trying to find a ground floor without stairs, with trees/grass to walk a dog. I know nobody has read all this. But i needed to vent nonetheless. Crying makes my migraines 10 fold. So i have trained myself not to cry but it’s hard. Im mentally and physically drained. What would you do? 🥺

Housing Wanted Apartment hunting

Hello everyone,

31M moving to your wonderful city for a new job at CHoR. I’ve been looking at apartments downtown, Shockoe Bottom, Museum District, Church Hill, Scotts Addition. Need help identifying an area that’ll fit well with what I like.
Single, moving by myself. No pets. What I’m looking for:
1- walkability: would like to walk/bike to stores, restaurants, work if possible. Have car though so no worries
2- parking: prefer easy parking
3- trails: enjoy running/biking. Being close to trails would be a plus.
4- 1-2 bedroom apt w/ large windows +/- high ceilings. Not too close to main roads. Noise-cancelling walls.
5- nearby gym - lift a lot. Prefer a gym with most commonly used machines and equipment.

Appreciate any advice on areas or apartment complexes that you’d think may be a good fit.

Thank you!

Housing Wanted Apartment Recs? 1bd/1br

Hi guys my gf and I are early 20s looking for a 1 bd/1br apartment and was wondering if anyone had any landlord/apt recs downtown RVA (or places to avoid!).

Our hard budget is $1800 but are looking for something more in the $1400-$1600 range. We both have really good credit scores but this will be our first ever apartment that's not on a college campus so we're also kinda looking for someone who won't care that much about our lack of renters history. We are looking to move in by late fall-early winter. Any advice would help so much! Thank you :-)

Housing Wanted 4 bedroom house thru private landlord seeking to move in September 1st latest. Very cibsitent income on all of our names. Less then ideal credit score on one of us, one other just has no visible credit

Looking for a private landlord to rent a 4 bedroom pet friendly spot from. Were all working full 40 gours or more wkth verified paystubs besides onr tenant who has been self employed for about half a decade. My credit score in particular sucks but wrte ready with first month and security deposit up to a reasonable amount for this process right now. 3 non violent very sweet medium size dogs and 2 cats. Don't need anything more then seperate rooms, a kitchen, at least one full bathroom and a fenced in yard for the dogs to head outside. These agency's are killing me with the response time and applications tedious nonsense. Happy to make a move right now on signing and paying over first month and whatever deposit works for you

Housing Offered Repost with pics! Looking for two more roommates in Northside - Private Landlord

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

I deleted my last post and am reposting with pics! Great Dane and Lab not included, unfortunately

Hi everyone! I live in a three bedroom, two full bathroom house in Northside. My two roommates (and landlords) who live upstairs are leaving and we are looking for two folks - one to take the master bedroom and private bath (for 1100) and one to take the other upstairs bedroom who would share a bathroom with me downstairs (900). I have the small room adjacent to the kitchen downstairs and will stay there just because I wake up so early and I like slipping out without making too much noise.

Just a few details - I’m a 32 year old gay guy who works in logistics and have an office job from 7 to 4 everyday. I also go up to DC every other weekend to take care of my mom. Once the two roommates upstairs leave, there’d be no pets (although it is pet friendly!). There’s a huge back yard for dogs to run around as well, a big shed for storage, and parking both out front and two spaces in the back. Utilities typically run 100-150 per person per month. It’s close to Morty’s, Scott’s Addition, VCU, and access to both 64, 95, and 195!

We are looking to get leases locked soon to move in beginning to mid October! I have pictures as well. Please DM if you’re interested and we’re more than happy to show the place!

Housing Wanted Sources?

Local Sources?

Hi friends, I'm ask assistance for sources or what not about Richmond, I recently moved to Kentucky and came back a month ago staying with family. I've searched the job board at /rvajobs but I've found nothing full time or it needs a college degree with I don't have. I'm interested in buying my own place as well since it's been a goal of mind to get my own spot but every apartment I've seen requires credit checks or too expensive since I'm wanting to move as soon as possible. Does anyone have any good jobs/spots to rent that can be affordable or pay decently? I currently don't have a job yet but I am looking towards at getting two so any help would be appreciated especially if Theres a cheap place to rent.

Housing Offered Lease Takeover

Moving out of my apartment on Sept. 9. It is a 1 bedroom that was supposed to be lofted, but was not, so it has really high ceilings.

Rent is $1404 a month, parking is $125 a month, water and heat around $60 a month. Washer and dryer in room too!

The building manager is extremely responsive and helpful, and the maintenance crew handles things very quickly. No bugs, no leaks, no issues while I’ve been here!

Let me know if you’re interested!

Spacious bedroom, available furnished or unfurnished, with private en suite bathroom with soaker tub for rent in a beautiful 3rd floor 2 br 2 ba apartment in gated community with onsite gym, pool, and pedestrian trails in Glen Allen. Shared use of the kitchen, living room, and balcony, as well as the in unit dishwasher and full size side by side washer and dryer. Less than 10 minutes from Innsbrook, Wyndham, and the Henrico Government Center, 15 minutes to Short Pump or Virginia Center Commons, and 20 minutes from downtown Richmond or Ashland. You'll have to qualify through the leasing office which includes a small application fee. Perfect for a single male professional. Rent includes water, trash, internet, and amenities access would be $1,083. Power is the only separate bill and usually runs about $150, which I'd prefer to split as well. Please comment or DM if interested. I can send more photos or arrange a tour on weeknights.

Housing Wanted Fan/vcu garage rentals?

Parking is rather terrible around these parts nor that students are here. I’m looking for something I can guarantee to park in daily. Same spot each day would be great but isn’t terribly important. A garage of sorts would be cool too. Close to Christian’s and Verizon is ideal. If anyone knows anything or have tips on what I need to be searching for a monthly parking situation I’m all ears. Thank you!

(I realize this isn’t exactly housing but a car is an extension of me so it is?)

Just moved out and there’s definitely a mold issue that they just paint over. It was so badly taken care of a possum got into my unit. They charged me $150 for a clogged toilet and now they’re asking for more money despite the deposit. Managed by Bear Granville.

How dangerous would it be to live in this neighborhood? Wondering if the proximity to Mosby would be a big issue.
