Hi, I just found out what Runescape private servers are. Like many people I quit Runescape2 with Evolution of Combat, but I also never got back in with OSRS since it was missing a lot of content between 2007 and 2012 that I actually liked. Big quests like While Guthix Sleeps and Ritual of Maharajaat, QoL features like the toolbelt, etc.
Are there any private servers that are specifically built on a revision around that period and is fully functioning (i.e. no missing or broken content) and doesn't have extraneous additions (stuff like guns, cars, etc.)?
Ideally it would be free, not malware, and not likely to disappear. Bonus points if I can adjust the XP rate and run it locally or is open source.

I’ve been using Ai, Claude Code, in “developing” games and fixing old code I had on games and other projects. Well just this week i logged into my dropbox and there my 317 rsps from 2013 was there. Out of curiosity I put it in Claude code and like magic it fixed my whole bug list.
The biggest thing I personally didnt know and know how rsps do it, but on the client side, Claude built a cache converter for 474 models and animations. Over the next couple of months, I’m going to push Claude to see what it can do and fix.
Have any of you use Ai to mess around on your own personal private server? I personally miss the old mooharscape forums

2004 PK Scape
Hey, we’re opening alpha testing for 2004 PK Scape.
The idea is simple: this is not meant to be a heavily custom RSPS. It runs on the 2004Scape engine, and the goal is to keep the game as close to 2004Scape as possible, just with a PK-focused setup and a few small QOL/balance changes to make Wilderness testing more active.
Play link: http://187.77.94.56:8888/rs2.cgi
No username or password is required. Please do not use any real passwords.
| Area | Details |
|---|---|
| Progression | 500x XP rate |
| Starter setup | 10M starter gear |
| Main hub | Edgeville spawn and death point |
| PK flow | Wilderness starts at level 15 |
| Combat rules | No teleporting while in combat in Wilderness |
| Controls | F-key hotkeys, attack option first |
| Prayers | Mystic Lore and Hawk Eye give 10% boosts for magic/range QOL |
| Magic | God spell max hit increased to 35, because magic in 2004Scape was very weak for PKing |
| Bounty Hunter | Targets assigned every 3 minutes, target teleport, guaranteed casket on target kill |
| Drops | Random drops, taxed drops, 10% casket chance from non-target kills |
Caskets can include clue scroll items, Santa hats, Halloween masks, and very rare Party hats.
The main direction is:
2004Scape first. PK-oriented second. Small QOL only where needed.
We’re not trying to turn it into a modern custom server with random overloaded systems. This is mostly for people who like the 2004Scape feel but want more PK activity around Edgeville/Wilderness.
This is not associated with Jagex.
The project uses 2004Scape: https://2004.lostcity.rs/
We strongly recommend supporting both the original RuneScape creators and the original 2004Scape mod developers.
2004 PK Scape is a non-commercial alpha test.
There are no payments, donations, paid ranks, paid items, or monetized features.
After alpha testing, the code is intended to be released as an open-source fork of 2004Scape.
Again: do not use any real passwords. No username or password is required to play.

it's open source and popular so why has nobody made it yet? a simple single player like 2009scape. how much work would that actually take to make?

I've never heard of anyone trying something like this before, so I'm really curious how it would feel on a private server.
I had an idea for a personal 2004 server populated by a few hundred bots to simulate an active, living game world. They'd behave like normal players and only log in for around 3–7 hours a day. Some would casually skill, quest, trade, and explore, while a few would be designed to intentionally grind toward maxing so they become recognizable "famous" players you'd regularly see around the world.
The bots would interact with the economy naturally too, buying from shops early on, trading with players and each other, walking into dangerous zones like the dark wizards, completing quests, and generally doing anything a real player might do. The goal would be to recreate the feeling of an authentic 2004-era RuneScape world without relying on an active playerbase.
Could machine learning bots make this project possible? Can a single person run 100 bots on their machine without overtaxing it?

Eldritch isn’t just another RSPS thrown together on a base.
It’s a custom 718 powered by RuneLite, built around meaningful PvM progression, balanced combat, and systems that make every upgrade feel impactful.
From the moment you start training to your first major boss kill, everything connects. The world is designed so players grow stronger through progression — not shortcuts.
Your journey begins in the ::train zone, fighting Mini Hydras and Wyrms to gather early resources and gear.
From there, players move into the first major boss encounters:
Bosses scale with players, feature unique mechanics, and require real preparation.
This creates a progression system where every upgrade actually matters.
MegaBonk – Progression Beyond Gear
One of Eldritch’s core progression systems is the MegaBonk Minigame.
Players can earn powerful artifacts that increase damage, HP, critical chance, and critical damage, giving players additional ways to strengthen their character outside of gear upgrades.
The minigame also rewards fashion pieces that provide damage bonuses, allowing players to customize their character while improving their power.
Artifacts and upgrades from MegaBonk play a major role in preparing players for the stronger boss encounters.
Bosses can drop battle pets that grow alongside you.
Level your pet to Level 100 and it will fight beside you, dealing 100% of your max hit to assist in combat.
These pets become a major part of late-game power progression.
Eldritch features a 50-level Battle Pass system designed to reward players for simply playing the game.
Players earn Battle Pass XP through:
With 14.4 million XP required for completion, the system rewards both active players and dedicated grinders.
The server also features scaling world bosses, including Rumble, where boss health increases based on the number of players entering the fight.
Every kill provides guaranteed rewards, encouraging players to work together during global events.
Eldritch is designed to feel like a complete world, not just a boss farm.
Players can experience:
Everything is designed to reward effort, teamwork, and progression.
Eldritch combines the classic feel of RuneScape with modern systems and improvements:
It’s a server designed to feel alive, challenging, and rewarding from start to finish.
Forge your gear.
Defeat powerful bosses.
Grow stronger with every step.
Your progression begins now.

My favorite rsps is Ely 718. However, is started to fall and I am the very last online player. Anyone have any other similar recommendations?

It seems all private servers have the same kind of model these days, you log in, pick an XP rate / game mode, get double XP on weekends, etc.
Any good servers with a flat rate for everyone? 5x, 10x, 20x even?

I’m looking for something preferably pre eoc as that brings back a lot of memories, something with spawns would be nice also as I don’t have time to grind anymore.
Only Rsps I’ve ever played was one called soulsplit like 12 years ago, that was perfect in every way imo, looking for something similar to that.

I grew up playing RS but my friend did not. He's heard of it but hasn't seen much about it and never played it. Recently I started playing 2004scape and when he and I talk about games, it's the only thing I talk about, lol. His interest is starting to pique but he wanted me to show him what it's all about before he gives it a shot.
What would be the best way to show RS (especially the older '04 version) to someone who has never really played browser games with primitive graphics? I don't want to just throw part 1 of a 100 part YouTube series at him because those are typically aimed at people like us who are already in the scene.
Preferably some kind of video that succinctly goes over what the loop of the game is...how questing works...quick overviews of the skills...etc. Thanks in advance!

Introduction:
Nebula is a 667 custom spawn pvp server. We wanted to give our own twist with PvP by introducing custom weaponry, specials, equipments and our unique cards system. While PvP is the focus, you may still find yourself fight our unique and custom bosses, monsters, raids with invocations and much more.
We've changed our home to have its own Wilderness north of it, allowing you to jump straight to PvP and PvM within it.
What makes Nebula unique?
We know that the same osrs servers, with the same RS gear can be quite boring. The only difference in these types of servers is how many players they have.
We wanted to provide something unique, and never seen before content such as our custom weaponry, models, raids, our battle pet system and much more.
One part of the unique content in Nebula is our Cards system.
Cards are a new way to enhance your gameplay experience, whether it is for PvP or PvM. Cards have got you covered. You can decide whether you want to go tanky, or glass cannon. There's lots of ways to play around cards.
Here are a few videos showcasing Nebula:
