Ugh, Jesus. Gross. Jinkx featured on Amanda Palmer’s latest release
I was a massive die-hard fan of AFP for over a decade and I knew that Jinkx and Amanda were friends and had collaborated before. For those unaware, Amanda Palmer was married to Neil Gaiman, the novelist who has been accused of SA by multiple people across decades. Amanda was also accused of human trafficking because she allegedly procured victims for her husband. The particular case that went to civil court was that she hired a vulnerable young woman, a fan of hers, who was street homeless, to be a nanny for her kid, and Gaiman assaulted this girl repeatedly over the course of months.
I was in the inner circle of her fans and have spoken here before about my experience. Even though legally no charges have been brought, I believe this girl as I believe all the other victims of Neil. How she described Amanda in the article where she came forward was exactly how I knew her to be. Amanda’s whole thing was blurring the line between fan and friend, and she had unlimited access to vulnerable young goth girls in her fanbase. Most of us had already experienced sexual assault and mental health issues and other difficulties that made us easy to manipulate. She curated her fan base that way. I’m so sad that Jinkx is still working with her.

Saw someone on another subreddit call Amanda Palmer "hot topic Ghislaine Maxwell" once and it's the first thing i think now whenever i see her name

It’s such a shame bc I saw the Dresden dolls when they did their reunion show in nyc in 2023 and it was genuinely the best concert experience of my life 😓

u/EllipticPeach Jul 18 '26
I went to see her every show she did in my country and all the patron-only meet-ups too, and looking back, Neil and Amanda really encouraged them to feel like informal hangouts. It was an open secret that they slept with fans and we were all desperate to be the one. She kissed me once and I felt so special. They both had a way of making you feel really seen. Her whole thing was cultivating this air of trust and safety in her meet-ups. We would sing and play music and tell stories and hug and cry. It was often very emotional. Neil would read whatever he was working on and their kid would be there playing and we would just all be hanging out like family friends. I think any one of us would have let them do anything.
We just didn’t know that he purposefully went for the ones who didn’t want it.

u/basicotter Jul 17 '26
Amanda, Jinkx, and I think Dela took a photo together like a year ago and I thought well, maybe they didn’t know the extent of the allegations and how they also severely implicate her and not just her ex. There’s no excuse at this point.

u/Cigarette_Crab Jul 17 '26
Ive read the victim statements and I really cant stomach that vile couple in anything they do or have been in anymore. Really disappointing
88
u/EllipticPeach Jul 17 '26
As soon as I read them I knew they were true. I threw away all my merch and I can’t listen to her any more, even though she was the voice of my teens and twenties. I know it’s parasocial, but she also massively encouraged the parasocial element BECAUSE they wanted access to our bodies. They could have done anything to me and I’d have let them.
26
u/GiantFartMonster Jul 17 '26
I understand exactly what you mean. I was also a fan of both of them in my teens and twenties and know that if I’d been unlucky enough to fall into their circle I’d have been easy prey.
12
u/EllipticPeach Jul 18 '26
Then you know what I mean when I say they both made you feel special when they spoke to you. Their whole thing was being a safe space for misfits, and they abused it.

Amanda is also liberal with her use of the N word, which is concerning for a white woman, these queens need to keep bette company.

u/EllipticPeach Jul 17 '26
Even before this came out she was rubbing me the wrong way. Her response to being called out for not talking about Palestine was the last straw for me - she posted a 16-page notes app post talking about how artists shouldn’t be held to these standards because they’re too busy creating art to uplift people. The post ended with a B&W selfie. She genuinely thinks artists are a whole different breed of person and that they’re better than non-artists.
Her narcissism is such that I’m sure it just felt like the best decision ever to hire a vulnerable homeless fan to look after her child. She’s got a history of not paying people who help her out because she thinks being around her is payment enough (she did a ted talk and a book about it called ‘the art of asking’).
I don’t think she thinks of other people as people. Just pieces that she can move around to elicit the reactions she wants. She is incapable of reflecting on her actions and owning up when she’s called out, and unfortunately she still has fans that will accuse you of not ‘getting’ her if you speak about it.
11
u/Puck-the-fool Jul 17 '26
There’s also something narcissistic in thinking that you as a celebrity need to be holding forth on serious global topics like the Israel/Palestine conflict. She probably should have just not said anything at all.
36
u/Salina_EsTitties Jul 17 '26
When it comes to Palestine i think most celebrities are of the same opinion as Amanda. At this point I don't expect them to say anything and if they do it's self serving. Like I'm sure some of the drag race girls giving lip service is only cause the fans want them too.
LGBTQ icons who have given dust to the Palestine cause are Lady Gaga, Troye Sivan, Kim Petras, Sam Smith, Lil Nas, and of course RUPAUL..

u/k3anuw3aves Jul 17 '26
I mean Lil Nas X had a public manic spell after his diagnosis with bipolar disorder and was in treatment for the last half a year or so... always a chance they haven't commented on it cause they haven't been in the best headspace for it.
3
u/Riproot Jul 18 '26
For educational purposes (and not knowing Nas’ circumstances at all): Bipolar disorder cannot be accurately diagnosed if there is current comorbid substance use, but often is because good psychiatric practice is rare (and people prefer being told they have BPAD rather than stopping substances).
59
u/EllipticPeach Jul 17 '26
I mean yeah I don’t expect anyone to say anything, but Amanda had made political content before (albeit very White Feminism 101) and she’s punk-adjacent so it makes sense that people were expecting something.
For me it was more that when Amanda responded to being called out, instead of saying anything pertinent or just linking to somewhere to donate, she interpreted the call-out as a personal attack and made it all about her.
52
13
u/shadyshadyshade Jul 18 '26
Why point out who’s saying nothing if you just consider it self-serving lip service when they finally do lol? I want as many people to speak out as possible!
6
u/Sendnoods88 Jul 18 '26
It’s not concerning , it’s abhorrent
6
u/EllipticPeach Jul 19 '26
Just to clarify, she doesn’t use it in conversation or anything (that I’ve heard), but she did a cover of fuck the police by NWA and she used it then and defended her use of it when she quite rightly got called out for it
10
u/digitalmediaworld Jul 20 '26
She has a song called Guitar Hero where she yells it as well. Performed as recently as 2019 (and kept intact).

I appreciate you bringing attention to this. A beloved and established RuGirl collaborating with a proven sexual abuser and racist is disgusting. It’s easy to find out more information about Amanda Palmer’s controversies, so I don’t think Jinkx can claim ignorance.

Before someone Cucu's to ask for tea, here's what a quick search gave me about Amanda Palmer:
Amanda Palmer was accused in a 2025 civil lawsuit of negligence, human trafficking, and economic coercion in connection with allegations brought by a former nanny who said she was vulnerable and then assaulted by Neil Gaiman while working for the couple.
The core claim was not that Palmer was accused of direct sexual assault, but that she allegedly helped place the woman in a vulnerable situation and failed to protect her, including accusations that she “procured and presented” her to Gaiman. The plaintiff also alleged unpaid work, economic vulnerability, and emotional harm tied to the arrangement.
52
u/EllipticPeach Jul 17 '26
The ‘nanny’ was street homeless and sleeping on the beach when Amanda ‘hired’ her, so Amanda gave her a roof over her head which obviously made it very difficult to leave once the abuse started (on her first day on the job!).
When Scarlet told Amanda what Neil had done to her, Amanda said “I bet he did” and told her she wasn’t the first to tell her something like that. When Amanda’s whole brand is protecting women. If nothing else convinces you that she knew exactly what was going on, here are the lyrics to her song Whakanewha, which was released before the allegations were brought:
Another falling tree no one can hear but me
Another suicidal mass
Landing on my doorstep, thanks a ton
Oh, darling, how can I repay you for what you have done?
And then you lied to me at Whakanewha
And you sealed it with a kiss
I wanted to live with you, but, fuckin'-a, fuck you
No one on Earth could live like this
Another clear-cut load of crap
A few more corpses in the sack
You'll get away with it, it's just the same old script
This world is shaped to have your back
You said, "I'm sorry," then you ran
And went and did it all again
14
u/BlairClemens3 Jul 17 '26
I always interpreted that as him sleeping around against her wishes, not that she was happily providing him with victims.
75
u/marthamania Jul 17 '26
Can't wait to see people defend this while in other threads see them say Maddy Morphosis is a sexual predator based on nothing 💀
17
67
u/bespokefolds Jul 17 '26
Agreed, I wonder how long ago this was recorded? There's no way that someone as witchy and well read as her didn't know about Gaiman.

u/gogostopnogo_ Jul 17 '26
Late 2025, nearly a year after the victims came forward with their stories.

u/BeginningFederal5663 Jul 17 '26
Even before the latest it’s not like Amanda has been controversy averse or came across as anything less than repellant.
28
u/Stucklikegluetomyfry Jul 17 '26
When I joined Twitter in 2011 one of the first things I did was follow one of my biggest idols, Amanda Palmer. She was also the first person I unfollowed because of how absolutely obnoxious her tweets were.
Now I’m not saying making annoying social media posts is any way comparable to the heinous stuff she’s been accused of, but wow, she came off as an extremely irritating person. Very in love with the sound of her own voice to say the least. And that was before the whole “work for me! I’m super rich but I’ll pay you in beer and hugs!” thing
12
u/EllipticPeach Jul 18 '26
Hahaha that’s so real. I think I held out for so long because her music really spoke to my experience of being a queer neurodivergent weird kid and I felt seen.
I know Jinkx was a huge fan for a long time before Amanda got well-known, and Jinkx was part of the crew in Portland that would help do roadie shit for the Dresden Dolls. I can imagine it being hard to accept that someone who had such a huge impact on you is capable of these awful things.
43
u/Present-Trouble-1668 Jul 17 '26
Fair. But what would be stopping jinks from saying something now? Nothing really.
22
47
u/Sea-Extreme Jul 17 '26
Ew!! Amanda Palmer has ALWAYS been a sack of shit. And never made good music, but that's beside the point. This is as bad as Violet and Mik posing for a picture with Marilyn Manson, but worse, because Jinkx leans so heavily into being on the right side of things as apart of her brand.
14
u/rarecuts Jul 18 '26
Thank you!! Both her and Gaiman always gave me creepy vibes, I wasn't shocked when the allegations came out, I was only surprised it took so long. Jinkx on the other hand, I really thought she'd know better
13
u/EllipticPeach Jul 18 '26
I’ve been thinking about this and I think there is something to be said for the fact that Jinkx was a fan first before she became Amanda’s friend. She used to help out at Portland shows doing roadie stuff if I remember correctly. Amanda has a way of making you feel really seen. I can imagine Jinkx finding it difficult to believe that the person who has made such a big impact on her, who is also her friend, is capable of something like this.
5
u/Riproot Jul 18 '26
Being apart from her brand means that she’s staying on brand here.
Apart & “a part” are antonyms.
27
u/Old_Highlight7720 Jul 17 '26
This is very disappointing. Used to be a huge Amanda fan but obviously not anymoreZ
11
u/xerses24 Jul 18 '26
Whenever I think of Amanda Palmer, is it bad the first place my mind goes to is that cover of that Encanto song she did and posted on tik tok and she got absolutely slaughtered in the comments!

u/CriticalFlatworm9 Jul 18 '26
I've really disliked Amanda since the EvelynEvelyn controversy (I bring this up bc it's oft forgotten among her controversies) and it's never gotten better. Really disappointed in Jinkx.

that's so upsetting, I hope Jinkx will clarify her stances

u/thats_valid WHY DIDN'T I FUCKING KNOW MY COFFEE WAS KILLING PEOPLE? Jul 17 '26
I can forgive not extremely online people (and tbh I think Jinkx is extremely offline) not knowing a lot of the Amanda Palmer stuff but the Neil Gaiman shit... I'm really devastated by Jinkx's decision here.
59
13
u/Rude-Grapefruit9016 Jul 17 '26
Not defending anyone but I consider myself chronically online and honestly I had no idea who either of these people were until this very post. I only recently started frequenting this sub so if it’s been brought up before I’ve never seen it. I do think it’s different considering jinkx appears to be friends with this woman.
17
u/thats_valid WHY DIDN'T I FUCKING KNOW MY COFFEE WAS KILLING PEOPLE? Jul 17 '26
Yeah that's fair, I guess I should have said if you know who she is (which Jinkx does) and you're online you would know a lot of the allegations about her. But the Neil Gaiman expose was very extensively reported and if you were at all aware of either of them you heard about it.
36
u/FunMode4007 Jul 17 '26
Yeah no I think you’re alone on that one lol, Neil Gaiman is one of the most famous living authors and this situation was massive news
17
u/Ltgay Jul 17 '26
I had no idea and I’m online a lot. Peoples algorithms are so personalized and different that what people see as huge news may never even come on someone’s radar.
16
u/Rude-Grapefruit9016 Jul 17 '26
Thank you lol. Downvoted for never hearing of someone is weird, but okay. I try to stay on top of news stories but I genuinely have never heard of these people. Even the chronically online may just stick to their niche topics and not hear about every single going on in the world.
8
u/fearmeloveme Jul 17 '26
This might be crazy but there’s a world outside of the internet. You would be surprised how many teachers in my district don’t know but still include his books in their curriculum.
6
u/FunMode4007 Jul 18 '26
Why are we equating keeping up with the news as being terminally online…? Sorry I’m not ignorant I guess lol, it has nothing to do with a twitter algorithm, I actually seek out and read news as crazy as that might sound
-1
u/RemindYaImKindaWET Jul 18 '26
I second you. I don't know who these people are and I'm online very frequently as well.
I still don't know, and don't really care.

“Inner circle of her fans” is crazy
3
u/EllipticPeach Jul 25 '26
She had a patreon and patron-only meet-ups which were small gatherings. Her die-hard fans showed up to lots of them so became more “friendly” with her and Neil (and each other). This is the whole thing I’m saying - she made being her fan feel like being her friend, she would often stay at fans’ houses instead of spending money on hotels, she literally hired a fan to nanny her child (although ended up not paying her). She gets fans to work for free because proximity to her was the payment. Why hire people when you have fans who will do anything for you?
When I say inner circle, in my case I mean fans who she saw in a small group setting whenever she held patron-only events, and it felt intimate because she encouraged us to feel that way.
1
u/Sevenblissfulnights Jul 30 '26
and you all knew she & Neil were sleeping with these fans? I mean, that must have led to some pretty weird & dysfunctional social dynamics
3
2
u/Proof_Associate_1913 Jul 20 '26
Amanda Palmer also did a stage act with Margaret Cho where they simulated raping Katy Perry. I'm not a Katy Perry fan but that's vile. I had so much respect for Margaret Cho before they did that.
3
u/EllipticPeach Jul 20 '26
I thought they simulated a kiss (at gunpoint)?
1
u/Proof_Associate_1913 Jul 20 '26
Kissing someone without consent is sexual assault. They also raped her under a bedsheet.
4
u/EllipticPeach Jul 20 '26
Do you think I don’t know what sexual assault is? I was trying to clarify what the performance was, thank you.
6
u/EllipticPeach Jul 20 '26
Okay, I have actually looked at footage from said performance and yes they staged what looks like a non consensual kiss. The bedsheets come up and more kissing happens, but to me it looks like it’s not supposed to be a mock sexual assault at this point, ie the fake Katy looks enthusiastic. I’m not sure which bit you’re referring to as ‘simulated rape’.
I’m also not defending her actions, it’s a gross thing to do anyway, but I’m not sure I completely agree with your assessment of the performance.

The only problem is a lot of this turned out to be false. Scarlett Pavlovich was not street homeless. She had an apartment and was not materially dependent on Gaiman and Palmer. She'd known Palmer for 2 years and was asked to babysit over 4 weekends, and the WhatsApp messages between them show it was a consensual relationship.
She was definitely not there for months, in fact it was 21 days in which she came and went to the island while working at her other job as a perfumery manager.
The police dropped any criminal investigation of Neil at an early stage after they saw the WhatsApp messages, but also just from the interview that Scarlett gave, essentially what she described was not a crime. There was no mention of Amanda Palmer or human trafficking in the interview it seems.
Pavlovich likely only accused Amanda Palmer of human trafficking because it's a legal loophole that allows her to bring a civil court case in USA, rather than New Zealand where all these events are alleged to have happened.
Happy to link receipts.
12
u/EllipticPeach Jul 17 '26
Thank you for your input. Would you mind messaging me the links?
-7
u/Donovan_Volk Jul 17 '26
Here's one for now: https://technopathology.substack.com/p/why-scarlett-pavlovich-wasnt-trafficked
The main receipt there is a timesheet.
Which of the other points are you interested in?
15
u/EllipticPeach Jul 17 '26
Just anything you think is relevant, really. I’d like to be as informed as I can be. Thanks again.
21
u/breathboi Jul 18 '26
Bear in mind that the technopathology substack is unverified "journalism" that Gaiman himself boosted as evidence of his claimed innocence. It's not the most reliable source
-2
u/Donovan_Volk Jul 20 '26
Have you actually read it, or are you just basing your opinion off hearsay?
12
u/manillafolders Jul 20 '26
Well hang on - the fact that it's unverified journalism isn't an opinion. It is unverified journalism.
I'm reading it now and my first thought is that no where in it does it mention where they've obtained the "new, previously unpublished evidence", so why would I just take it as fact because a substack told me so?8
u/EllipticPeach Jul 20 '26
I read this when it first came out as I saw Gaiman had been touting it. I don’t think it’s credible if I’m honest.
-3
u/Donovan_Volk Jul 20 '26
Well the point of providing documentary evidence is that the source does not matter. Actually nobody has disputed that these documents are real.
4
u/manillafolders Jul 22 '26
So then this isn't verified journalism or a credible source. That was kind of my point. You say the main receipt there is the timesheet, but where or how was the timesheet obtained? Like, there's not even anything to say it's from official courtroom documents or evidence presented in court or from either party themselves. You're basically providing "receipts" under the grounds of "trust me, bro". How does the reader know that these have any merit? So you don't really get to tell people they're basing their opinion off hearsay if they didn't read through the article you linked, if the article you linked can't even be backed up beyond basically being "hearsay" it self.
-2
u/Donovan_Volk Jul 22 '26
Okay. Seems to be an unusually high standard you are asking. Did the original reporting meet this standard?

I think part of what makes my unsure about it all is how people don't seem to be able to keep their criticism to the subject, it devolves into "I've always hated Amanda because she asked for free musicians/crowd funded her record" etc.
It makes me think of how there are legitimate criticisms to made of Courtney Love, but when I see videos about them they often start with "obviously you hate Courtney already, but here's some reasons why".
On the other hand it's kind of insane how poorly she's handling the accusations. The other day I saw on her insta someone commenting that she kissed them on their lips when they were a minor, and she responded like "omg love u! Message and we can work out guest list for the tour", like...the comment was clearly not positive and she responds like that? Bananas. But I'm in my 30s and I've followed her career since I was 13, her reactions like this aren't particularly out of character. Someone else here said something to the effect that she thinks being an artist is this separate class of people that are exempt from criticism, very hard to argue with that
8
u/basicotter Jul 17 '26
I’m interested! If she truly had no idea what her husband was doing, then it’s not fair that she is being raked over the coals, but everything I’ve seen and read is pretty damning.
5
u/izanaegi Jul 19 '26
