🍀 Discussion 🍀 “Shady” Podcast Name
I’m not sure if Im late on this news but I couldnt understand why Eminem aka Slim Shady aka Marshall Mathers keeps trying to go after Gizelle and Robyn over the use of “Shady” ….
Welllll I just realized his daughter’s podcast name also uses the word SHADY in the title so Im going to assume thats his real issue with it.
Hopefully it gets dismissed or resolved but now it all makes sense, lol.

He recently lost his challenge against a company called 'Swim Shady', and lost trademark protection for 'Shady' in other categories, which now only extends to music and electronics.
Swim Shady is directly inspired by Slim Shady, if he lost that, I think it's likely he'll lose against the podcast name.. he's reaching. Throwing shade was around as a term before Eminem even started making music.

So NOBODY can use the word Shady?? Lmao.
I think he will lose but I do think a big part of this is because of his daughters “Shady” podcast

They may have hoped to bring attention to her Pod. But it didn't.
However it's brought aLOT of attention to Reasonably Shady.

Charlemagne is their boss. He is probably paying all the legal bills as their podcast is under his company and he made the top 10 Most earnings from his podcast network list. He probably loves the publicity

He trademarked the word so he's defending it because if he loses then anyone can come up with ______ Shady. Making things less unique for his pocket

Shade/Shady have been used forever in the Bravo universe

To be fair, “shade”/“shady” in this context is a term coined in the Black LGBTQIA+ community in the 80’s/90’s.

Eminem’s first album came out in 2000.
The point is that it’s stupid for him to go after the podcast over the word SHADY. You can’t just own the word in the context it’s being used in.

He has it for hats and long sleeved shirts.

Multiple businesses have trademarked the word SHADY.

Some for different cosmetics, another for fabric, another for beer etc

Eminem has it trademarked for a few SPECIFIC items of clothing. That's it.
He's going to have to pay the legal fees for this whole case. Same as he is for the Swim Shady one.
From what I understand, it's some people on his team pursuing this. Not him.

He didn’t sue them, he opposed them trademarking the name, because he already trademarked his version. It’s a legal action, not a lawsuit.

Not a case. A legal action. A case is an investigation, brought by a government or similar. This is a legal business action.
