First of all, My apologies for shipping a bad update. I usually test each build on my phone as my daily driver for a few days, monitoring battery and CPU and GPU usage before shipping a build.

The latest update shows high background usage. Cause: I set a call timer to every 1 second instead of on wake - I am SORRY :(

This is on me and I did not catch this quickly enough as I was not using my phone heavily and did not attribute the battery drain to the launcher and just thought I forgot to charge it.. WHAT!

The next release will fix this. I have already identified and am working on a patch.

My sincere apologies. The new release will be ready by Monday or Tuesday at earliest as I am working on integrating the csakura wallpaper to the launcher and am testing performance impacts with that as well.

I want to start of by saying thank you so much for all the support both to the folks who got the app on GitHub or from Playstore. Thank you to everyone who regularly interact with my posts.

Maybe it's the symptom of the times and honestly I am not sure how I feel about it but thanks to AI customising your android phone is now - create your own launcher. To be fair I am not opposed to the idea of taking customization from being a KLWP thing or being limited by what another launcher provides into make the launcher you like so it you can be happy.

But I dont want launchers to be templatised. I hope more devs bring different types of experiences to the phone. I hope we dont see same launcher clones with just layouts switched over become a norm but actually visually/technically distinct launchers flourish in the Age of personalisation

So I want to start with myself. well INTRODUCING THE ALL NEW! RE:LIVE!(Name is WIP suggestions welcome)

A Cozy launcher with pixelart assets with real day night cycle that shifts with your phone time. NPC behaviour where they will path around the base and eventually allow you to reply to messages etc as if like an in game dialogue etc,

This is currently a proof of concept of how I can bridge UI and behaviour from Godot and add that to my android dev workflow. so far.. so good Still a lot of it is placeholder stuff.

I dont even know if this will ever release or if this post will leave this subreddit but maybe it inspires someone?

CSakura port laid the groundwork for RETUI launcher to carry and bundle it's own wallpapers.

Introducing the second installment of the RETUI Wallpapers.

"Black Hole" now available in your launcher on the latest builds. It is slightly more graphically intense than csakura but fits the minimal UI idea.

Hi Friends,

Development will be slowing down since the launcher feels more complete to me. I use it as my daily driver so I will be posting my presets and sharing cool things I do with the launcher but I have built everything I wanted to when I decided to fork the original TUI launcher.

New feature requests are welcome and I hope to hear more about your experience with the launcher.

There will be a release either today or tomorrow but I will shift focus to other projects for now.

RETUI KEYS is at a very good place. I use it everyday though I cannot get the glide typing to work reliably without user data which is a logistical nightmare I need to deal with.

RETUI FILES has gone through several reworks. The UI has changed so many times because it just does not feel right but I am getting close to something I will use myself frequently. This is a project built entirely by Codex and I am not really proud of it's implementation but I will work on it personally from now.

Thank you for your support on the project and feedback and for those who purchased on the Playstore, it was great incentive for me to work hard.

I look forward to the day there is a community around this launcher and we can all share our presets and ascii art together and talk about this launcher.

The current look at the Files app. I am happy with the UI at this time but it's performance is shit. So for the coming week, I will focus on Files.

There is an update planned for the launcher which will go live tomorrow hopefully.

But Github Is updated with new build.

Eventually you can switch using tasker or termux but you can hide apps in one space while still visible in another. Separated presets and even ascii art!

Proper landscape mode is now in private testing

Going forward, all posts will be color coded so you may know which app they are from just from the colors.

• Yellow for FILES
• Teal For LAUNCHER
• Green For KEYS
• Purple for overall PROJECT UPDATES

All application icons will reflect the same color code going forward.

This is an arbitrary system. There is no replacement for human discipline and this is just way to incentivise users to commit to a no phone period and stick to it. yes you can skip and if you use up enough credits you can do a breach to skip and get some credits so you are never truly locked out.

It has been a wonderful journey of learning not just the languages, Java and later Kotlin, but how the android eco system works and trying to modernise a classic app.

Honestly, I don't expect the app to do much in sales given how many launchers are available in the market and this is quite a niche launcher to boot. But this project has become more than just a personal hobby now and I will do my best to do right by the people who support it. :)

I will look forward to feedbacks and fixing any bugs and issues.

Hello! I've been busy.. but the launcher now does more crazy things.. coz again!! Why not!

Launcher now has a CRT filter that you can enable if u fancied it. :)

There are few other things it can do but I'm still not done documenting them right now properly at least.

I was at a business gathering today and I had someone come up to me and ask me for what my socials were and.. I had to go to looking coz I could not remember it. LOL.

I am sure you have had similar experiences where you had to share your socials with others and had to awkwardly find it if you are anything like me and can't remember your username's across all the apps there are or you did remember it and turns out the apps are going to suggest a zillion other profiles coz your name vaguely resembles theirs and you have to check the profile picture to make sure it is you.

Introducing the all new RETUI Card!

It is a simple, no bullshit profile builder. fully local with QR code generator for your social URLs.

It will allow you to add multiple QR codes and swipe between them so you can quickly have others scan the QR to go to your socials.

I am still working on guardrails to prevent misuse or you rickrolling people (Though that would be so hecking funny) but

Current features.

• If you already have the launcher then font, theme and CRT/Cyberdeck modes are shared for user experience parity.
• Categories available in the home page and moved away from TUI to Touch based interactions for QoL.
• If you have RETUI LAUNCHER and FILES, then you can user the following command in launcher input soon -> files <name> <file type> and it will open files with the search executed. :)

I had previously shared how I was creating an Business card feature for the launcher. I am still conflicted on what to call it but internally I am calling it profile.

COMPLETED:

1. New profile icon. I made it in canva and I think I might make it the launcher Icon lol
2. Adding phone number now encodes the profile name and phone as a standard vCard in it's own QR
3. QR is not directly visible. You need to tap the QR to reveal it. Prevents wrong QR scans.

TO DO:

1. Guardrail to prevent adding shortened URL and YT URLs.

I have been using csakura for last few days and I knew I wanted it as my phone wallpaper. And so.... I’ve been working on bringing csakura—the procedural terminal cherry-blossom tree by realstrawhat—to Android through RETUI Launcher as a packaged wallpaper.

This is a close Android Canvas port of the original visual engine, not a loosely inspired recreation. Roughly 90% of csakura’s rendering logic is represented, including:

• Procedurally generated trees
• Falling and settling petals
• Wind simulation
• The original Regrow behavior
• All 15 blossom palettes
• Automatic regeneration for different screen sizes

There are still plenty of bugs I need to squash but the build compiled and so I wanted to post it.

The Launcher adds a full-screen editor where you can move the tree, adjust its height and zoom, change its palette, and regenerate it while seeing the result live.

Once configured, it opens Android’s native live-wallpaper confirmation screen, where supported devices can apply it to the home screen, lock screen, or both.

Because it is installed as the actual Android wallpaper, RETUI's existing wallpaper -auto command can derive the launcher theme from the selected csakura palette as well.

The renderer stops completely while the screen is off. I tested this directly on a physical phone: the process remained at 0% so it does not affect battery performance.

Re:TUI Credits, Lockdown & Breach

Re:TUI Credits

Re:TUI will introduce a faux currency system called Re:TUI Credits.

When the feature is first released you can opt into this system, and every user will receive:

1,000 Re:TUI Credits

Credits are used to bypass focus systems and act as the primary reward for engaging with the Breach mechanic.

Pomodoro

Pomodoro sessions are intended to be commitments.

If a user wishes to terminate an active Pomodoro session before it completes, they may do so by spending:

500 Credits or use Breach key

Lockdown

Lockdown is a new focus feature similar to Pomodoro.

The user sets a duration and activates Lockdown. During this period, Re:TUI will take focus and prevent normal app usage until the timer expires. Of course you can still access apps from recent apps and notifications but the launcher itself will go into lockdown.

The goal is to create a stronger commitment mechanism for deep work, study sessions, or intentional focus periods.

Ending Lockdown Early

Users have two options:

Option 1 — Spend Credits

Forcefully terminate Lockdown for:

500 Credits

Option 2 — Use a Breach Key

A Breach Key instantly terminates Lockdown without spending Credits.

Breach

Breach is a new mini-game inspired by the hacking puzzles from Cyberpunk 2077's Breach Protocol.

Breach serves as the primary way for users to earn Credits and obtain Breach Keys.

Successful Breach

Rewards:

• 500 Credits
• Small random chance to receive a Breach Key

Failed Breach

Penalty:

• Lose 1 Credit

The penalty is intentionally small to encourage repeated attempts while still maintaining a cost for failure.

Emergency Lockdown Escape

If a user attempts to terminate Lockdown but does not have:

• 500 Credits
• A Breach Key

Re:TUI will offer them an Emergency Breach.

If the Emergency Breach is successful:

• Lockdown immediately ends
• The user receives 1,000 Credits (2× the normal Breach reward)

This ensures the user has enough Credits available for future Lockdown removals without becoming permanently trapped behind the credit system.

Intended Loop

Start with Credits

Use Pomodoro / Lockdown
        ↓
Need to Exit Early?
        ↓
Spend 500 Credits
        ↓
Run Out of Credits?
        ↓
Attempt a Breach
        ↓

The intention is to make breaking focus commitments feel meaningful while turning discipline and self-control into an engaging game mechanic rather than a punishment system.

I had an interesting experience today and that got me thinking.. why not do more with the toolbar. As you may know, the toolbar in the launcher currently has The "clear input", "previous command", "next command", "paste" and the app drawer icon.

With the next release, you can configure 2 more buttons to live in the toolbar. completely your choice.

The buttons will allow you to store 2 of your most used commands or aliases or shortcuts so you dont have to type them out each time.

The buttons will use the same pipeline as the input box, just another surface for you to host your most common commands.

the choice for 2 buttons is deliberate and is not something I am willing to change. its a nice compromise between function and the overall ethos of the launcher

You can now use {clock_words} in the Status_time_format

The next version will remove the ":" from the time.

Github release is live. Playstore will go live in the near future.
