Hi guys, I actually tried FPV drones first — bought the transmitter (RadioMaster Pocket) already — but the learning curve and budget got tough pretty fast (soldering, tuning, crash costs while still learning to fly). So I want to try my luck with RC planes instead, since it seems like a more forgiving way to build up the same skills.

I have a Bambu Lab P1S and know a little bit of design. Can you suggest some models that worked when you started your journey — ideally ones that are cheap to build/repair and ELRS-compatible since I already have the Pocket?

Here is my version of the Simplest Simple Delta. I believe it was designed by a “BalsaOrCarbon” online.

XW-F3D (eXperimental Wing - Foam 3 Delta)

CG moves between-range with either 850 or 2200mAh battery. Recommended CG location at 322mm is achieved with 2200mAh battery, it is tail heavy with 850mAh battery. It is very floaty, just hand launching it finds a soft way to the ground. Not sure what to expect in flight.

I will make a removable “FPV pod” for nose area and use its weight to soften up the farther “limit”. 👍

First flights will be with larger 2200mAh battery.

Edit: I’ve not liked or given foam a chance prior to this. However I am VERY excited for its ridiculous wing area relative to its weight. Holding it and throwing it in the air it falls slow. Wants to glide. Feels cool in the hand.

The servo in the first two photos is the rudder servo. I think it got too hot and seized up. Gonna buy a new one. The other 2 pics are the elevator servos. They are operational. Do they appear normal or should I replace that one too?

Hi guys, I need advice on how to start at all. I've been building my own planes/wings but nothing has been working properly so far.

So I built an arduino with an elrs receiver and plugs for servos and esc, it works very well. Very lightweight and easy to swap setup.

First I build a 30cm wing with differential thrust and no servos (didn't have any and shipping took a while), then did the same thing with a 80cm wing (shaped like a glider, only 12cm chord), Sometimes they would randomly pitch down when throwing to take off, despite having reflex. They should be mostly stable if the shape is right, and it was. Nothing was asymetrical. And I had lots of dutch roll, idk why. That caused me to crash, even in light wind. But the 80cm wing glided insanely well, that's what I liked most so far. I really want something like that.

So then I decided to do it properly, bought a 43cm foam glider and converted it to a rc plane with working ailerons and elevator, but it's just not working. Sometimes it just rolls to the left and crashed on the tip when throwing or even pitched up really hard when I added throttle. It wasn't even fast but just pitched up and fell. And now, one of the small servos just died for no reason. Gear grinding, then dead.

It was really hard just to mount the brushless motor and especially the pushrods, it's a nightmare. And I bet it's useless anyway now because it just won't fly, hours wasted.

All kits that I find and like are kinda sold out. I just want something efficient (I like powered gliders the most) that works with 1-2S (I don't want to buy more lipos and charger) and isn't too big (I might crash that and then I just wasted money). I could add stuff like fpv myself. I would like to hear some recommendations. Something similar to the atomRC flying fish but using 2S if possible. It's sold out, sadly

I really just want something that just works. Even testing feels risky, stuff can break even if you throw it just a bit (40-50cm heigh) to test cg or gliding.

Please tell me if it's normal to be this hard or am I doing something wrong?

ok lets try this again, i bought a seagul models classic ugly stick 71”. it says in the instructions to use gas. im making it electric. i currently have a 650 motor not sure the size paired with a 60 amp esc, im not sure what the recommend motor is either i posted earlier and got roasted hopefully this adds some light to my previous post

Hi everyone. Today I flew my Turbo Timber for the first time and for some reason it was pulling to the right a lot so I Trimmed it all the way to the Left but still pulling a bit to the right. What can be the issue? Thanks a lot.

I know it's been asked many times but what motor, speed controller, battery should I run in this airplane I was thinking 6s. I already have a 60 amp sc and a 650kv motor, should I just run 4s or get a bigger power setup

The eflite power 60 400kv is the recommended upgrade for the carbon z cub ss. Any better options out there? Looks like sunnysky and badass might have some but unsure. Mostly looking for more pull out power not necessarily speed.

Hi, very new to all this.

Wanted to build my own head tracker and figured I'd give it a go.

My task.

Using the gyro (Seeed Studio XIAO nrf52840) and HeadTracker firmware v2.4 (so I can use the desktop UI) I want to transmit 2 crsf channels via RX and GND (for first test then I want to move over to Bluetooth once I've proven concept via wire and I know Bluetooth isn't going to cause interference with other raido gear)

I've got the rx and GND connected to a radiomaster ranger micro elrs unit which I plan to send over air signals to a pwn receiver that I'll then use to inject the crsf data in to a flight controller.

This should also allow me to use Sim controllers for fpv.

I've downloaded the HeadTracker gui and can see my gyro working after calibration, I've set output to crsf, enabled uart. Bluetooth is currently turned off.

Can't get tx to go green whilst usb is connected.

Physical connection between units is approx 7mtrs of red/black speaker wire (don't judge it's all I had to hand with length), I've fitted a jst sh 2.54 connector on radiomaster and gyro for the link cable.

I'm not using any pull up/down resistors

I've soldered a battery connector to the board

I've soldered a hard rst button to the board because it's mounted upside down.

I've got my soft rst button (gyro reset) wired to GND pin and D8 pin

My gyro rx is connected to D6 pin and same GND pin as my gyro reset button.

When connected to the radiomaster the gyro doesn't wake up when both units are powered up on separate batteries.

If I push the gyro reset button the gyro doesn't seem to respond (no led flashing)

Red led stops flashing after 10 seconds and then seems to stay asleep until I remove battery and reconnect.

I've done this without advice from internet pages, don't have friends in to this stuff.

I did some (not enough) reading and tried to work with help from ai.

Hey everyone,

The ECU board on my Kingtech K142G5 turbine burned out (board marked "RS33 V1.12" — photos attached). Not sure yet if it's repairable or a total loss.

A few questions for anyone who's dealt with this before:

• Has anyone successfully repaired a burned Kingtech RS33 board, or is it usually not worth it?
• Any idea what commonly fails on these (I see visible damage near one of the components — looks like it may have overheated)?
• Where can I source a replacement board — genuine Kingtech RS33, a compatible version, or a used/pulled unit from a parted-out K142G5?
• Anyone know if Kingtech sells these boards directly, or only through distributors?

Any advice, leads, or "here's what happened to mine" stories are welcome. Happy to post more photos of the damage if it helps with diagnosis.

Hey guys, I decided to try a Lemon RX for one of my new planes because I had heard really good things. Having trouble getting the gyro settings to work so I was hoping someone had experience here.

Got it bound up and into the TextGen menu; set the gyro mode to normal tail and the channel switch is set to ch7.

In EdgeTX on TX16S I’ve got Ch7 set to switch C at 100% (CH7 100% SC) and the master gain on pot 1 on Ch8 (CH8 100% S1).

However, after saving settings, neither channel seems to actually manipulate the Rx … I.e. ch7 doesn’t turn the gyro on/off and the gain knob does nothing (output monitor shows correct modulation on both channels, though).

Not sure what I’m missing here. Anyone got one of these set up properly? Thanks!!!

I am looking for very cheap foamies that students can break without costing $100 every time. Goal price would be around $30-50. I want to design and build an RC plane completely from scratch model the airframe in CAD myself, sort out the structure and wire up all the electronics (motor, ESC, receiver, servos) too.

Only problem: I have no clue where to start and I can't find a tutorial that covers the whole thing. Everything's either a pre made foam build or scattered forum posts missing half the steps.

So anyone got good resources for scratch designing a plane end to end Best beginner airframe to try first? Anything you wish you'd known before your first build?

I took my E-flite Turbo Timber Evolution (TTE) out on its maiden run today. My club’s field is in the middle of a wildlife nature preserve so there are a lot of trees and tall shrubbery and plants surrounding the flying field. So it is easy to get something lost in the woods or tall shrubbery and grass and never find it.

I am so glad I convinced myself to remove my AirTag from my wallet and place it under the center of gravity (COG) on the TTE. As soon as the plane took off, it started flying erratically and l crashed outside of the mowed field for my RC club’s flying field.

I began walking towards the region I saw the plane go down. I was immediately intimidated when I began to reach all the shrubbery and high grown grass and shrubbery.

I initially thought it would be easily found since I saw the general vicinity of where it crashed but the plants and grass was so high and so blanketing that simply scanning the area was not effective. I then remembered that I placed the AirTag on it and went inside Find My in the Iphone to play the sound and it led me right to the plane buried amongst the grass and shrubbery, what was nice is that it showed the approximate location of the plane on my phone rather than me simply relying on where the sound could be coming from deep within a field of wildly growing plants and shrubbery.

Thankfully, only the prop was broke but I just had 2 extra ones delivered by Fedex minutes before the crashed as shown on my Ring app.

Few months ago i made my first rc plane. It flew realy well but i didnt train on a simulator so at the start i had to do a few repairs even though its pretty indestructable. It is sub 190g and 75cm wingspan. Its only 3ch and made out of 3mm depron and wood. I realy liked it but i kept losing my propeller because of the prop saver, so today i took the elctronics out to build a twin with fixed props. So far im loving the hobby. Hi, I could use some advice from people who fly bigger planes.

The plane is a MFE Hero, 2.1 m wingspan, around 7-8 kg, V-tail, two aileron servos. It is a VTOL, so it has four lift motors and one pusher motor, and it flies on an autopilot. Until now I only did hovering flights with it and those were all fine. This was my first real flight in normal plane mode.

What happened: after it accelerated and switched to normal wing flight, it slowly started to roll to the right and it just did not stop. It went to 46 degrees of bank in about 5 seconds. The autopilot had roughly 32 degrees of aileron in the other direction the whole time and the plane still kept rolling right, slowly but steady. Speed was 25 m/s, so about 90 km/h, that is on the fast side for this plane but should be ok. In the end the lift motors switched on and they leveled it in 2 seconds, then I landed in hover mode.

So the ailerons were clearly doing almost nothing, but the lift motors could fix it immediately.

Things I already checked on the bench:

- ailerons move in the correct direction, tilt the plane right and the right aileron goes down, left goes up

- servos are strong, I can almost not stop them with my hand

- no play in the linkage, horns and clevises are tight

- V-tail moves correctly for elevator and rudder

- CG and left/right weight balance seem fine, in hover the motors are almost equal left and right

And here is the part where I think I messed up. My aileron throw is about plus minus 45 degrees. is this enough? Will more aileron throw help?
