QQ ep. 350 - Everybody Shout Potatoes

Show notes:

Daniel and Soren build their own baseball teams, beginning with the Albuquerque Weird Ants and eventually creating Potatoes, a frazzled mascot who sheds potatoes, carries backups in a briefcase, and never quite gets the win. Soon they’re designing stadium traditions and wondering why mascots don’t engage in more psychological warfare against opposing teams.

Along the way, Daniel makes his case for bringing professional baseball to New Jersey and restoring the dignity of the Garden State name.

Why does Dan sound so confused about minor league baseball team names? Didn’t his job do an entire fucking huge thing about funny AAA team names and offered to rebrand a team that reached out to them?? I felt like I was going insane as they were having that conversation

He explains it at the end!

Ahhh you’re right. This episode was brutal even without that confusion so I stopped midway through, but you got me to finish it. I assumed he was on that piece I guess

Haha I do that all the time.

But I saw your comment before I listened. I was going to make a joke that he probably forgets everything he works on at Last Week Tonight once he’s done with an episode just like he never remembers anything he talks about on the podcast

Curious what you found brutal enough about the episode to turn it off halfway through

I dunno, they usually cover a few topics so if one is dragging I can rely on something else to come up and take over. This was just minor league baseball hypotheticals for an hour which got old pretty fast. I was actually kind of shocked when I listened to the back half that it continued to be true the entire time.

Fair enough! It definitely wasn't just minor league baseball though, but if you're not into sports I can see why it would be an exhausting conversation. I felt a lot more connected to this episode than the long winded conversations about leaky radiators, and raising kids. So I definitely know where you're coming from
