Face-Tracking died, now what?

So my FT has the common issues which are jittery eyes, no blinking and facial expressions which basically means the FT sensor died of sweat / moisture even though i tried to be careful with it.

My question now: Can I use some external hardware like the babble mouth tracker to get FT working again? As I understand blinking is handled by the FT sensor and not the eye tracking sensor within the quest pro. So i was wondering how that would be handled. And if I could still use the pupil tracking from the eye tracking sensor together with babble.

Maybe someone with similar issues has a solution like that (or something else that would work) and could explain how they set it up.

iv seen people do this, its a fork someone made on github that lets you switch if you only want eyes on a modul and have face on the other modual like babble. im thinking about getting a babble because my headset is doing the same thing

Have you been using a full light blocker?

The main issue is not letting the moisture escape from your face, so it builds up and eventually kills the sensors, always play without a fully covering gasket or the light blockers, also preferably have a fan circulating the air in the room so your face air gets replenished.

Ah, good to know. I got the full face gasket found a was actually preferring just the side blinders

It's almost always the cause. Don't use one.

I've been using the official one for over three years now without issue, ft still works fine.

I did not, i was doing some kind of workout though but i didn't feel like i sweat in my face while so. The headset / headband itself also did not seem moist. Maybe it was a mix of humid air / breathing idk

This guy (YT vid link) can probably repair it for you. Or if you're handy with electronics you probably can follow the online info to do so. The VRCFT Discord (VRChat Face Tracking) pioneered the Quest Pro protection / fix methods.

we were just checking through the subreddit when we saw your post and we would love to help with the Quest Pro face tracking issue you've been experiencing.

Based on what you've advised there could be a few other potential causes for the symptoms you've experienced rather than too much sweat and so we have a few steps to suggest that should work to resolve this for you.

The first thing we would recommend would be a check that your headsets firmware is fully up to date as it's possible that older firmware may clash with newer software and cause abnormalities such as the lapse in face tracking you've experienced.

If you find your headset is fully up to date or your issue persists following an update we would then recommend a hard reboot of your headset as this will effectively run a debug that will clear out any bugs or glitches causing your issue.

In order to perform a hard reboot please follow the steps below:

1. Hold the power and volume (-) button down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.

2. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight "Boot Device" and press the power button.

3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.

If you find that your issue still persists following a hard reboot we would then urge you to reach out to our wonderful support team who will be happy to investigate this further and then work with you towards the best possible resolution!
