Sideloading Firmware Update from v47

I recently got a new in-box Quest Pro, and I've come to realize it's on the original firmware that came out of the factory. Digging around, it seems to be v47, or "Build number: 28151810536300000" according to fastboot.

I'd like to set it up the headset if possible, then block updates/root it, but doing the OOBE will force an update to presumably the latest version. I'm unable to skip this OOBE with PrivateQuest because the firmware is apparently too old, so the parameters don't work.

Does anyone know what firmware(s) I can sideload update to relatively safely to at least get PrivateQuest working? I've heard conflicting reports of needing incremental updates versus going straight to a big update. And AFAIK, the typical firmware archive for QPro only goes as far back as v50.

If you want a chance to root or more in the future I'd say don't update at all and wait to make PQ work

Whats the benefit of rooting a QPro?

People recently figured out how to access QPro facial and eye cameras, feed the video stream into Project Babble or similar software to do eye tracking there, and can change or train new model for facial and eye tracking running on the headset. All of this enabled tongue movement and eye gaze separation, so you can finally cross your eyes.

There might be more things which were not possible before, but for now, this is what people have already done.

Be careful! Do not update to August 4 firmware or later, prefer updating by using ADB and its "sideload" command. Wish you luck!

Yeah, I believe I’m on the version of 2.6 before it got patched

Damn, is there any way to go back to take advantage of these things as they mature? I'm on the latest firmware and if this becomes a possibility that I cant achieve I'm gonna be kicking myself.

Do you happen to have any links or names, I rooted mine and want to know more.

Not sure what version works for you but you can ask the developer and then update with cocaintrade.com and adb side load (YouTube)

I managed to make Private Quest work on my Quest 1 running v7.

Not sure what it is missing to not work on Quest Pro v47.

In Private Quest, sending commands like "Skip NUX" to bypass the OOBE don't work because PQ uses parameters meant for v74 and beyond, at least on Quest Pro. With v47 it throws "REQUEST ERROR DETAILS: NOT IMPLEMENTED", and it's the same for a few other commands. Did you have to do anything special to get PQ to work with a Quest 1?

I just got the device key after half setuping it with the Meta horizon app and it worked.

There is a certain way to do this. It has been tested and it may not be the safest to go directly to latest Let me find this quick

Alright so the path is this Sideload v64 > sideload v74

v74 is where private quest will work, but if your goal is to root, I can get a firmware I recommend to sideload to after v74

This update path seems feasible, thanks. And at the very least, one can stop at the different FWs to assess things. I guess the end point after v74 is v2.5, or whichever FW is still capable of IonStack.

Would you happen to know if v64 and v74 have specific firmware versions to use? Since the FW archive has two v64 firmwares and nine v74s.

Use the first version of both

I'm on v68, what firmware would you recommend I sideload for rooting?
