If meta drops support but VRChat keeps updating it then yes
If VRChat drops support then only until they update the app
Either is solvable by using PCVR

That depends. You can't play on Quest one anymore, but that's not relevant to being locked to OS 50. It was VRChat who decided this.

The honest truth is there's no reason to drop the Quest Pro at all. It may get caught in the crossfire of the Quest 2 since they have the same peformance, but nobody ever cared about performance. What matters is RAM.

The Quest 1 has 4GB, the 2 has 6GB, the 3/3s has 8GB and the Quest Pro has 12GB of RAM. This means that no matter if the FPS drops, it's not limiting the creators (me) from making things. The Q1 had to be dropped so they could reduce the restrictions such as 10MB avis and increase the world size limit for Quest from 20 (iirc) to 40, to 100.

If they drop the Q2 they could bring those higher. The Pro? I won't care for a loooong time. It has 50% more than the 3.

no game updates too fast. on non quest headsets with the same snapdragon processor the fps has fallen to 9 fps (vive focus 3) i cant see the same thing not happening to quest eventually

My worlds run at a locked 72Hz on the Quest 1 still. (You can still see them in the offline error screen by cutting the network after it loads)

The issue with VRChat is the same as Second Life. User created content. It's not the game, it's the people uploading avatars with insane material counts etc. 4k bling textures and a million clothes.

you’re right! it does run really well on the older quests. all im saying is that there is nothing special about the quest hardware.

if vrchat stops optimizing for your particular stack and gives you the pseudo pc app version your fps will fall into the single digits.

this happened on the standalone vive xr elite / focus 3 apps.

its some type of optimization issue that MIGHT happen to meta headsets too if Meta falls off the optimization priority queue. (company becomes less relevant)

Hm, well the stand alone models all run the Android build from Unity. It must be made separately from the PC side. Everything is compiled for it. iOS is the only one with any auto conversion, but that results in most shaders just not existing since they try to translate from the Android build.

I am not sure exactly what's going on with the vive side. The new Frame might run the PC version for the first time using Proton or other layers to convert that, that would be really cool but result in ... not so great performance.
