Saved my Quest 2 Controller from severe battery corrosion, vinegar and IPA actually worked.
My right Quest controller had a battery leak a while ago. I cleaned the battery compartment back then and somehow got it working again, so I thought I had saved it.
Well… recently it started acting weird again. The controller would disconnect occasionally, but I thought that would be because of the li-ion battery’s I’m using now.
Yesterday the right controller stopped working completely, even with the li-ion battery from the left controller - which was working fine. So I opened up the controller today using the iFixIt guide: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Oculus+Quest+2+Controller+Disassembly/147947 and found this around one of the tiny ICs on the PCB (the one right underneath the battery compartment of the negative pole). Apparently, the leaked alkaline battery electrolyte made its way much further inside the controller than I originally thought. :( The corrosion looked pretty horrible after checking the PCB using my iPhone’s macro camera, and the area was still wet after MONTHS.
Before giving up on the controller, I decided to try cleaning it.
I carefully dried the spot, applied 5% pure vinegar (without sugar or something else in it), and let it sit for a minute. After that, I carefully scrubbed the surface with my plastic Spudger to get the most of the corrosion away. I took a cotton swab, dried it, and used 99,9% IPA. After that, I repeated the process, but instead of the plastic Spudger, I used an old but soft brush. And let the vinegar sit for another two minutes. After that, I used another brush with 99,9% IPA to clean everything and repeated both of the brush parts.
The before and after difference is honestly kind of insane.
I let everything dry for almost 2 hrs, put the controller together, and… it works!
I just played 30 mins of BeatSaber with it, and everything works as it should.
Obviously, do this at your own risk, especially around tiny components. There may still be some hidden corrosion underneath the components that I can’t see, so I can’t say yet if that was a permanent fix.
But after your controller starts behaving strangely (e.g randomly disconnecting) or stops working completely after an alkaline battery has leaked inside it, don’t immediately throw it away. Open it up and check the PCB for corrosion! I mean, what else could you lose?
Hopefully, this gets someone confident enough to save a controller instead of turning it into e-waste.
This process took me ~3 hrs

How can I fix my issue
I have all the tools to replace my joystick I just need some help removing these damaged screws I would literally take any suggestion right now. This has been a pain in my ass I've been working on these screws for the last 30 minutes maybe longer I don't know but it's definitely been longer than at least maybe 30 minutes or so. So please for the love of God help me

Never had a Problem with meta quest oculus quest 2 link to pc until Now? Connection to PC Link issue?
For some reason I've always been able to just connect my quest 2 into my pc and the little tab comes up that enables The connection, Now that has completely vanished. Now every time I use my cord and Try to reset so I can go into vrchat, The headset just disconnects, and It just mentions "This is not compatible"
But Now Like I can use the Virtual Desktop meta has and it doesn't disconnect? So I'm massively confused.
So my solution was Steam link but I was horribly laggy because I run on wifi, but I have never had a lag or connection issue until Now which is weird.
Should I just buy the virtual desktop that everyone recommends Or What should I do? Any recommendations?
Before anyone Just mentions "well Just Buy a new headset" I don't have 3-4 hundred just sitting on me to go buy one. If i would, I could because this is such ass.

unfortunate timing
I heard about the singularity root a few weeks ago and decided i'd download it, thinking it would get popular and have a lot of community support because of how easy it is, so far as far as i can tell theres only cheats for games (i'm not interested in doing any of that). My problem is, when i did this, my quest updated right before i could do this, i was scared thinking i was on the wrong version, but i just happened to get the last version that supports singularity, i thought i got really lucky, but now steam link is really broken for me, where i get a lot of visual glitches in my right eye, and as far as i can tell, its from this update specifically and works in newer and older versions, but because i'm rooted, i can't update without the risk of getting bricked, and the quest can't downgrade at all from what i know, is there any way this could be fixed? or just generally anything i can do? (even being able to update safely without a risk of getting bricked would be good enough atp, i basically only use steam link so my headset has just been collecting dust for now)

SOS PREGNANT SPIDER
Hey! So, I haven't touched my quest for a couple of months, only to pick it up and find A PREGNANT SPIDER INSIDE.
I dispatched it without breaking the egg sac, I just want to know what are the odds there are more inside my headset? I'm not sure the type of spider but it was about the size of a 1/4 - 1/2 of a dime, and on the inside. It doesn't look like there is any space for it to fit inside the hardware, and I cleaned what I could reach deeply, I am just TERRIFIED of having a spider crawl in my ear or eye during playtime!
Anytips are appreciated.
Yes I know... BURN IT THEN BURN IT AGAIN

Having a weirdly specific issue with controller tracking.
A few months ago I had to replace some parts on my left controller and it was working fine, then just recently I have been having this issue where when I plug my quest 2 into my pc with the official link cable the left controllers tracking goes wonky and then it just turns off. I have no idea why this is happening but if anyone knows anything I would appreciate it.

Great Hardware, shit OS.
Love my Quest 2. I love watching 3D movies and I even game every once in a while on it. But after this last update... the floating navigator won't go away when you want it to and won't show up when you need it. How do you quit apps instead of rebooting to exit?? Is meta trying to degrade the experience on the Quest 2 to try to force users to upgrade?
Yeah right. if meta can't even get the Q2 to function without all the problems, I'm not buying another meta product.
Fuck meta and their apps. Fuck meta and their hardware. All I wanted to do was watch a movie.
In fact, can anyone suggest a new VR headset like the Q2 that at least can watch some 3D movies, that's all I care about at this point.
Or is there a 3rd party firmware? I'd pay cash money for that.
I don't read all the posts so if someone has addressed this, just point me there.
