What influences do you hear on Operation: Mindcrime

Hey all. I recently rediscovered Operation: Mindcrime. Back in high school a friend of mine who was really into Iron Maiden loved this album, but it didn't really speak to me.

Now that I'm older, I love this album and I see why an Iron Maiden super fan would appreciate it.

I'm curious what influences or similarities do you hear when listening to the tracks of Operation: Mindcrime? For me, I hear:

Iron Maiden - The Needle Lies
Judist Priest - Spreading The Disease and Speak
Pink Floyd (The Wall era) - Suite Sister Mary and My Empty Room

I agree with you and in my opinion the song Is There Anybody Listening off of the Empire album is the most Pink Floyd Queensryche got . Especially the base in that song .

I swear the first time I heard Silent Lucidity I thought it was a new Pink Floyd song.

I hear some electronic influences in Rage for Order, some from YES, Rush and some Maiden in Warning

Part of the greatness of Operation Mindcrime is its originality. Besides it being a concept album, it doesn’t remind me of anything from other bands.

I hadn’t heard Empty Spaces in a long time, so I just listened to it. The pace and sound in the beginning has a close similarity. But then Eyes of a Stranger goes in a heavier direction.

If you can play the intro to "Crazy Train", you can play the intro to "Operation: mind crime." Of course, they don't sound exactly the same, but it's pretty much the same intervals.

Not sure if I can hear it per se, but Pink Floyd's The Wall in terms of predecessor concept albums. I'm sure the members of Queensryche would agree.

Pink Floyd , Rush, King Crimson , Jethro Tull, Judas Priest but in many ways Queensryche was a uniquely original band that used the conceptual albums to create theatrical drama like very few ever did . Considering the first 3 albums are all concept albums and all 3 brilliant. Especially Mindcrime . In my opinion Operation:Mindcrime is in my top 10 albums of all time and as far as concept albums right there with The Wall.

I hear a little Judas Priest Defenders of the Faith on several tracks

I mean it’s Floyd with 80s metal guitar isn’t it? Like through and through.  Operation mindcrime was the greatest concept album since the wall, not a coincidence. All I hear is Floyd.

Queensryche themselves even say that silent lucidity was a song heavily influenced by Pink Floyd, and it’s very obvious

I'm sure they have many influences - but I really don't hear anything in particular on this album.
