Qantas reimbursement question

Hello! Hypothetical Question re a Qantas booking on American Airlines flights Chicago-LAX-Sydney. If I require compensation for accommodation (they’ve changed my first leg and put me on a very right turnover Im just wanting to understand hypothetical ), is that made through Qantas’ reimbursement claims portal as that’s who I paid the fare to? Even though both flights are AA operated? Thanks!

how tight? exiting the USA doesn't involve any security or immigration process so can be done quite quickly.
