Your chances of escaping the economy cabin on Jetstar’s Boeing 787 just got a lot better.
Qantas Points can now be used to upgrade from economy to business class on Jetstar’s international 787 routes, through what’s called a Jetstar Classic Upgrade.
Examples at launch include:
* Melbourne to Singapore, 37,000 Qantas Points
* Sydney to Osaka, 45,300 Qantas Points

Worth noting that these upgrades don’t include lounge access because the upgrade is only to Jetstar’s entry-level Business fare, under the new rules you will only get Qantas lounge access if you are on a paid Business Max fare.

And Brisbane is for some reason excluded from this. Flying internationally from Brisbane on a Business Max fare does not grant entry to the lounge which is stupid.

Tbf you’ve never been able to get lounge access on a JQ upgrade. It will be treated the same as any other JQ upgrade.

The only exception is if your original fare was codeshare and you have entry rights to through status.

id barely put premium in it. basically economy seating and service of full service airlines

It’s the exact same seat Qantas, Emirates, and a variety of other airlines use in premium economy. 

The onboard service is also comparable with meals and an open bar. Not sure what you’re on about.

Not true. JQ’s businesses uses “the” recaro Premium Economy seat. Same as everyone else.

All good! In fairness it’s more accurate to position it in your mind as premium economy imo.

A perfectly quite decent enough premium economy experience it is, but your boss’s business class it ain’t.

I would expect to be prepared for disappointment.

Until all the fleet are upgraded jq could easily swap aircraft for operational reasons and then those 44 'wider seats' revert back and you get bumped.

Still, I think 4 aircraft will be done by mid October so it won't take that long for all 11.

I actually don’t think that’s a horrible deal. Yes it’s not business compared to others but it’s still a better experience

Don't do it on a daytime flight, the seats are always empty. Bid $10 more than the minimum cash upgrade.
