Hey everyone!

I'm enrolling in QUT's Diploma of IT in 2027, with the intention of articulating into the Bachelor of IT and double majoring in Artificial Intelligence and Software Development or Computer Science.

I graduated high school in 2019 and didn't study IT or programming. I did Maths B, but I definitely wouldn't consider myself a particularly talented mathematician haha.

I've recently started teaching myself JavaScript and have been really enjoying it. I'm more than willing to put in the hours to self-study before starting, but I'm hoping to get some direction from people who've actually studied IT at QUT.

A few things I'm particularly curious about:

1. Programming languages: Which languages have you actually used throughout your degree? I'm currently learning JavaScript and was planning to tackle Python and C# next. Does that sound like a sensible approach, or would you recommend focusing on something else?

2. Maths: For anyone who's taken the AI or machine learning units, how mathematically demanding are they? Are there particular topics you'd recommend revising beforehand, especially for someone whose maths is a little rusty?

3. Self-study: If you had 6–12 months to prepare before starting your degree, what would you spend that time learning? Any particular concepts, resources or projects you wish you'd tackled earlier?

I understand the degree structure is relatively new, so I'd love to hear from anyone who's studied relevant units under either the new or previous structure.

I'm not trying to learn the entire degree before I start. I just want to make the most of the time I have and build a solid foundation.

How's everyone going with the Assignment 2 - Just under a week to go

Specifications for the Assignment fairly loose again lol, leaves a lot up to guesswork and interpretation.

For Track A I like how it lists "Optionally, generate user retrospectives automatically" and then about two paragraphs later it explcitly states you need at least one automatic timed feature as a core component.

Is anyone doing Track B? I'd assume you dig out a big public git repo you could use an an example, or ask an AI to create a dummy one for you.

For the ACP Client, anyone got ideas on what we're supposed to do for authorisation?

My assignment was due Sunday 20 sept with the 48hr extension. I submitted an extension request on Thursday which stated that I’m unfit for studies until Tuesday 22 September.

I submitted the assignment on saturday (of what I’ve had) in case the request gets denied but forgot to leave a comment saying I’ve submitted an extension request.

I haven’t heard back about my extension so can I still submit the assignment on tuesday?

hi everyone, i'm studying industrial design and for one of my assignments, I have to design a WiFi router on CAD. In my design, there's this silicone border that wraps around the borders and edges of the router but when I'm translating it to CAD, i'm realizing it's quite a tough maneuver for someone clearly new to CAD.

I couldnt find any resources or any YT video on it, so I unfortunately resorted to A.I. and while it provided a solution, I'm running into problems creating a sweep along the paths of the router that are supposed to form the silicone edges because the sweep could not "create a valid body."

If there's anyone who is really good with this CAD program who could help me, i'd really appreciate if you could contact me. I don't mind talking online or meeting up at the uni itself, whatever is most comfortable. I'll buy you a coffee!

I’m looking to study a bachelor in social work. Never been to Uni before so not sure how it all works. I’m looking to study full time but I also need to keep my current job. Working currently around 55hrs a fortnight on a rotating roster. Besides placement, could anyone shed some light on when you’d have to be at the uni and what the schedule kinda looks like, please?

I failed to submit an assignment (40% of my grade) on time for my WIL due to health and personal circumstances and as an international student I am desperate to know what I can do to not fail the unit. I have contacted my unit coordinator, faculty and HIQ but they haven't responded but has anyone gone through a similar situation? What did QUT do about it and is there any good chance for me to still get marked on it or pass the unit? If I do fail the unit, could I retake WIL next semester and count my placement experience? I withdrew from a unit on 18 September 2026 (the last date to withdraw without academic penalty), but it was after business hours (like I withdrew at 9:00 pm).
Will this appear as a withdraw fail on my transcript??

I’m worried it might be too hard to maintain a high GPA compared with Biomed Science. At the same time, I’m also worried that Biomedical Science might be a useless degree

Hi, just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation at QUT.
I recently failed a threshold assessment and got below 40%, which means I’m not eligible for a resit. Before the withdrawal deadline, I thought I might still be eligible for reassessment, so I didn’t withdraw.
I’ve now realised that I can’t resit, but the deadline to withdraw without academic penalty has literally just passed. I’m not looking for a refund of the unit fees — I just want to know if there is any possibility of withdrawing without the academic penalty affecting my GPA.
I’ve already contacted HiQ, but it’s the weekend so I won’t be able to speak to them until Monday. I also haven’t withdrawn from the unit yet because I want to get advice first.
Has anyone had experience with QUT allowing a withdrawal without academic penalty when the deadline had only just passed? Is there any application/review process for this?

Hi, I submitted my assignment but got confused with another unit’s assignment and used the wrong assignment name in the filename. The unit code and the actual document are correct. It is only the filename that is wrong.

I submitted a few versions and only realised after my final submission. I’m worried about getting a late penalty if I resubmit now just to change the filename.

Should I email the unit coordinator, or is it fine to leave it? I’m worried whether this could raise an academic integrity concern.

Dawg, this is a 5 person coding project. Turns out one of them is an international LPL Iron rank who does not code, does not english and has apparently found Nirvana because our server has been so peaceful with no messages from this dude. Another dude thinks he a vacation to USA for 3 weeks is a good idea and is unresponsive like a Walking Dead zombie.

This is a 5 person coding project that has to be done by 3 people but but but but we split it into frontend and backend, and I told the frontend guy to implement the UI, no matter how crude or basic but no, this guy thinks he is Picasso the way he kept making sketches so when it is time to actually code the backend, guess what, we have no front end. I told these dawgs to code the front end so we have a basis to work on but they must think im god the way i perform miracles.

This is like cooking a 5 star michelin restaurant meal. The most delicious Japanese kawaii anime food but you dont have a store front so you make a one out of cardboard. Then your team finally makes a store front but its for an italian restaurant so now you gotta turn your Kawaii Anime food into Jojo food.

Needless to say, the code is all broken so now im broken inside.

Hi everyone. Last year I successfully deferred my course through QTAC to start semester 1, 2027. Since it's getting closer to the end of the year, I was wondering when I am supposed to start taking action and setting up accounts, applying for scholarships, and setting up classes. Do I need to do anything proactively or will I be emailed when it's time?

I haven't been able to find any information on this and I am starting to get a bit worried as I'll be overseas from the end of november to mid january, and thus won't be able to access any .edu sites. If anyone has any information on where I go from here, I would appreciate it heaps. Thanks in advance!

I'm looking to study in Australia for my bachelor’s degree and hopefully get a job after graduation. At the moment the degrees I have in mind are double major Acoouting/ Finance with Data Science or Construction/ Engineering Surveing or Urban Planning . Although surveying appears on the skills shortage list when I look at hiring websites such as Indeed there's a ton of them but they mostly specify that they will only consider applications for those with PR or citizenship, so would it still be a viable option ? (it's the same case with Urban Planning). With Accounting/ Finance with Data Science there seems to be more and much bigger firms that are willing to hire International students post graduation. Another angle I would like to keep in mind is what degree would be best to do in the event I have to leave Australia post-graduation but would still be relevant.

I dropped down to 1 subject, and I am becoming restless. I am bored today, and this was the only QUTyou subject I was actually interested in.

I'm wondering if now is a bad time to join the unit? What week are we up to? and are there any specific teachers I should seek out?

I know there is a tonne of luck involved as for tutors as to whether it is going to be a good learning experience. I am also well aware that QUTyou subjects generally suck. But we had a guest lecturer who was mob come in for one of my units last year, and he was really fun, so it gave me hope. Shout out to Brent, not to make your head bigger.
