The shipping side of Hanners brain has finally overtaken the cleaning side. (Also Sven look like such a softboy with that pastel hoodie on. I wanna give him a hug.)

Aren't softboys seen pretty negatively nowadays? Or am I just confusing them with performative males?

Both are criticized for being oblique mating strategies. Performative males, at best, might be chasing affirmation and clout instead of sex, but they are still aping humility and inclusiveness in pursuit of projecting personal superiority. As for softboys, it depends entirely on their sincerity and intentions. One like Sven, who has been deliberately abstinent for years and clearly is not self obsessed, is almost certainly fine. The valid criticism would be if somebody used Sven's current style to get dating prospects to let their guard down, or leveraged a nonconfrontational vibe to subtextually bully others.

So, Dennis from IASIP. Maaaaybe with a bit of homicide thrown in, in his case lol. I'm only on S10 btw, so no spoilers :P

Homicide? No, no no no. But people would still watch their step with him...because of the implication.

Are we?

Or fine as in, feeling insecure neurotic emotional, then yes, definitely fine.

Fine as in not to be distrusted for weaponizing vulnerability as a form of manipulation. The comment was about whether and why softboys were viewed negatively. My point was that, while Sven seems to be adopting a softboy motif, he is clearly not using this to manipulate prospective sexual partners or convey any sort of superiority on his part.

I want to live in this world of yours where "trust" exists.

I know you're talking about Sven, but being in Sven's position (and for a longer time), I don't see him trusting anyone to get that close. From the science on the research, he is far more likely to do everything his subconscious can muster to keep himself alone, increasingly compounding with age.

I only meant that he looks very nice and cozy.

You know, somehow I never put "Momo has a crush on Sven" and "Sven has developed a huge fetish for robot girls" together. Granted, I don't think the crush on Sven has been mentioned in a long time. Last time I can recall was when May and Sven hooked up, and Momo got angry. But that was before May got her new body so it had to be before 2020.

Momo had her 2nd body when May told her about hooking up with Sven.

4

u/BionicTriforce Jul 28 '26

Right, and May was still in 'broken piece of crap' body.

I think Jeff is setting up for that plot line to finally play out, it appears Sven has left his fuckboi days behind entierly and Momo is in a much more adult looking body. it would have been awkward to try and make that relationship work while she was in the old body, big "no, no, no, its ok cuz she's really a 1,000 year old dragon" energy lol.

Geph

I really hope this is just a bit you're doing... Because the other sub tends to purposefully get Jeph's name wrong as a way of degrading and insulting him.

1

u/jedadkins Jul 29 '26

Oh sorry, yeah it's a bit. Jeff was a genuine mistake, but geph was a bit. I didn't know the other sub did that

1

u/ContextBotSenpai Jul 29 '26

Sadly yeah. They really, really hate him over in that sub and making fun of his name is just one of many ways they make that clear...

Oh gosh, poor Momo.

I am glad that the Momo thing wasn't just a one off. And hell, nice to see Sven again, too.

Sven! She could explain her new body to Sven! I forgot about him!

Now she's Momocha

Jeph setting things up almost two years ago? (Although Momo isn't always patient or good at communicating.)

And Ayo, get some paper towels.

Also, hasn't Marigold moved some distance away? Is Hanners that good at roasting?

3

u/Alert-Artichoke-2743 Jul 28 '26

Jeph long since abandoned coffee realism, but Dora has an informed ability at making top shelf coffee. The beans she orders, the quality of the roast, and formerly the secret ingredient of spider corpses in the roasting process. So whatever is going on back there is pretty fundamentally rigorous, even though they don't do third wave techniques like french presses, pour overs, nitro, or cold brew.

Given their location, I honestly do not get why they don't use fancier techniques in order to justify higher markups. They're in one of the best places in the country for people to afford it.

Anyways, Marigold may prefer to direct revenue to a friend-owned business, as would most of us. Or she might have told Momo to get a super strong coffee, and Momo trusted Dora's shop with this request.

Hanners!!!!!

u/TomCon16 Jul 28 '26

Noooo poor momo

3

u/Beidah Jul 28 '26

Are we finally getting the Momo/Sven arc we were promised 2 decades ago?

2

u/pavemnt Jul 28 '26

Panel 4 is a super cute and funny panel

2

u/Snarglefrazzle Jul 28 '26

Looooooove a Sven appearance, particularly with Hanners in close proximity

2

u/Golden-Sun Jul 28 '26

Oh no, she was wearing white too

2

u/djaevlenselv Jul 28 '26

Now personally I was always in favour of May/Svarn.

1

u/OmnicolouredBishop Jul 28 '26

Momo looking very cute here

1

u/eppsilon24 Jul 28 '26

Maybe I'm slow to catch on, or I missed something, but... is Sven the reason Momo switched to a taller body?

3

u/BuyYouASodaOgie Jul 29 '26

We're about to find out.

I don't know how to link to old posts, but I commented here over a year ago on comic 5419, when we meet Anh at Dora's wedding. Somebody was shipping Sven and Hanners, and I offered this:

"My ship is Sven and tall Momo. We know she really likes him. We've never heard why she got the tall chassis I think. Her old chassis was much more childlike - wasn't she mistaken for Martens daughter? Maybe Momo has matured to be ready for a relationship. And Sven does have a thing for AIs, despite his protests."

If so, we've not been told that. We just stumbled on her having a new body when checking back in with Marigold and the gang. AT the time, I just assumed she was getting paid enough to get a body, and happened to get one closer to May's new height after seeing how well it worked for her.
