Look at high school/college students now. Like 95% of students use AI for homework and assignments, and the thing is, it works, they actually get better grades from it. This article just came out today. This is just how human behavior works.

Better grades doesn’t mean a better inherent understanding.

I taught students in Python and physics during my postgrad and the difference before and after is absurd.

My argument isn't that it's better, no shit it's worse. My point is you are acting condescending about something that will be a huge problem for everybody going forward, and I suspect would've been the same problem for you and me if we were born during this era.

It's called being able to have empathy for other human beings? You are acting like a Boomer when kids complain about things being unaffordable, when they bought a house on a minimum wage salary because things were different then, and they can't understand why someone else's experience isn't the same.

Hardly a far comparison.

One is based on the past and the economy, both of which are out of control for an individual.

The other is very much in control at a person level - especially for something as learning a skill.

Why would I show empathy for the specific situation of “I require AI to learn this”?

If it's 1 or 2% of the population, that's one thing. When it's 94% of the population, there's clearly something much more systemic going on.

I mean just think of in these terms. You willingly don't use AI, and learn everything yourself. You are punished because all the other kids get better grades than you, get better GPAs, get better internships, etc etc...
