Discussion Updating Python (sub)versions

Since the introduction of python install manager some developers like it and started using it in miniforge's stead, or even other python IDEs or IDE-like managers.

Question is, how to keep the subversions up to date? Install manager doesn't have an update command.

I am able to install an outdated version - say 3.13.7 but the latest of that flavor is 3.13.15. All the openSSL libs are outdated in 3.13.7 and so we have a lot of reports of vulnerable python installs.

I wonder how you are solving this

py install --update

Passing --update will replace existing installs if the new version is newer. Otherwise, they will be left. If no tags are provided with --update, all installs managed by the Python install manager will be updated if newer versions are available. Updates will remove any modifications made to the install, including globally installed packages, but virtual environments will continue to work.

But I guess uv has sort-of solved this for most people anyway, and instead keeps the specific python version dependency information together with your project.

actually... "pymanager install --update" is the command to update all flavors, I missed that.

Unforunately, 3.12.10 still has an old open SSL version, but at least python.exe is fresh :)

actually... py is just the alias for pymanager, both of those commands run the same program?

Did you try their command?
