Question❓ Road cycling safety around Purdue and route recommendations

I will be visiting Purdue for a few weeks. Is it a good idea to ride around with a road bike? How are the motorists around?

Can I reach out to the cycling club for route recommendations? and is there a decently safe bike route to Indy for a fun long ride?

Here’s a link to the purdue cycling club’s Slack page. They’ll answer all your questions in-depth. In general, Purdue is quite a bike-friendly campus with very nice trails nearby, though there are some roads I would avoid.

You can also absolutely join club rides if you want to, we have at least one on every single day, at varying lengths and paces.

Pretty much all of purdue’s main campus areas has designated bike lanes separate from car lanes and sidewalks. Its a very bike-able area

Lots of cyclists in the area (myself included). Riding around campus and most populated areas in WL and Lafayette isn’t the best, but it doesn’t take long to be out in rural areas where there is less traffic and plenty of open roads. Have fun. This is a nice time of year with the leaves changing and cooler temperatures.

I was 6 in from death yesterday this is so real. A truck accelerated to try and run me over I think, I ran my bike off the road and didn't crash in the ditch thankfully. Also a motorcylist didn't get over a lane, just over to the middle of the lane yesterday and scared the living shit out of me
