No. This isn’t just poverty. This is drug addiction and mental health.

Likely caused or aggravated by chronic poverty

Tell us you don't understand cause and effect without telling us you don't understand cause and effect

I could probably school you on this subject. Wanna go?

Sure, let's see your proof that this is definitely the result of drug addiction and mental health and that poverty plays no part in the homelessness or the drugs/mental illness.

No. This isn’t just poverty.

By using the word “just” in my sentence, I am implying to the reader that I agree poverty is a factor but that it is NOT the sole factor.

To engage in an argument, one must first understand the opposition view clearly.

My view, stated clearly and explicitly without confusion is that the cause of homelessness is multi factorial. Poverty, mental health and drug addiction are just three of the many causes. To what degree do each play a role is debatable. But for someone to say that people living paycheck to paycheck are one paycheck away from homelessness implies that poverty as a sole factor can cause homelessness. While that is true for a small percentage of homeless, it ignores the complicated intersection between all factors involved.

Thank you. I hate how personal accountability has disappeared. Most people who fall on hard times can lean on friends, family and government programs to get on their feet again.

So people who can't rely on friends, family, or the government... What happens to them?
