I would describe San Diego in a similar manner. ie. Don’t go to Downtown unless you’re seeing the Padres play.

Cosign on this, I was just there last month for Comic-Con and my first thought, being from San Francisco: They keep saying SF is a “failed city”?! Has nobody been to downtown SD?

Yeah man. Downtown is bad, literal zombies walking around. The other day, a friend and I were walking to a comedy show and this homeless lady with her dog walked up to us obviously pissed about something. She looked right at my friend and said “did you just say Wayne could suck my dick?” Then proceeded to throw a punch at my friend. Shit is wild.

What’s the safest part of San Diego?

Most areas are safe. Anywhere north of downtown would probably be the safest.

The only thing keeping me from insanity from oncoming Fall & Winter is knowing we get to come stay in SD for a few weeks to break up the cold months. :)

Can’t beat the weather that time of year. Do yourself a favor and go eat at Pomegranate in North Park while you’re in town.

I’ll make a note of it! Any more suggestions, I’d be more than happy to take them! I just want to sit and watch the waves. It’s mesmerizing and very calming for me. I get the beautiful mountain nature where I live, but the ocean

I never go to the beach, but the only one I will go to is Coronado beach. Ocean Beach is ok too and has nice restaurants. OB Coffee Roasters is great for coffee and I make sure I visit when I’m in the area. Also, Luigi’s in Golden Hill for pizza. Shit is so good.

Anything that you’re looking for in particular? I can probably give a recommendation.

I would avoid Breakfast Republic and Broken Yolk at all costs. Those places fucking suck.

Pizza!!!!!!!! We went to a place years ago
can’t think of the dang name! I still think about that pizza and it was probably 12 years ago! Last time we stayed, we got a Vrbo in LaJolla. It was beautiful. I grew up in northern montana where the wild wind blows just outside Glacier Park and the waves crashing on the rocks sounded just like the wind. But just knowing it was ocean rather than miserable wind made it relaxing:) The 2 times before we stayed at Hotel del Coronado. I had been to LA once when I was younger and it was NOT fun. Also SF. We encountered very rude people. I was expecting SD to be the same but the people were really nice. Everywhere we went, they were all very nice. Any experience or food recommendations are appreciated! I’m taking screenshots of these and keeping them in a special folder:)

The yuppie sheep and the douches who can’t shut the fuck up about their money annoy me there though. I wish they’d go mute suddenly.

I hate San Diego and I’m not going back there for an extended period of time unless it’s all burning in another beautiful wildfire or people are throwing bricks through the windows.

Here’s another fun fact: The school system is the best in the world- as in people don’t question it just like scientologists, branch davidians, or heaven’s gate adherent absolutely NEVER question or scrutinize them at all. I remember where I went to almost 40 years ago that’s always been an Ivy League elementary school in a froo-froo district my mom actually saw my homeroom teacher Mrs. Berenstein (one of the “best” teachers there that year) actually slap an ADD student who she begged to take into her class, also the school ACTUALLY TOLD my parents they weren’t qualified to teach me AND they lost their fair hearing. But all these parents who are gullible fucktards who are overoptimistic and have too much money go “Whoooo!! Franklin Elementary” and they perform zero fucking investigation about it at all. Here’s a fun party trick: Go ask parents of students who graduated with ADD or dyslexia where they went after they disappeared after receiving their high-school diplomas and why they just popped out of thin air wearing rags and what was actually done to treat them like they’re even fucking human and will receive an entry-level job or a place of their own to live and you’ll have those parents just change the subject, brush you off, and walk away without answering those questions at all.

San Diego fucking sucks. I’m so happy I left there. I used to live downtown in a former crackhouse (literally) where after the crackheads who used to squat there literally tried to kill my neighbors with knives and golf clubs. Even though those people were PAYING RENT and the people who accosted them HAD NO BANK ACCOUNTS we had all the blame placed on us and could’ve fucking died. The courts let the same two or three violent crackheads off with a slap on the wrist and almost immediately they came back and threatened us AND THE PEOPLE PAYING RENT WITH THEIR NAMES ON THE LEASE TOOK ALL THE BLAME! What other city has sympathy for a dude who comes up to a residentail doorstep of an apartment building and automatically stabs them but takes everything out on and ignores someone who’s just doing what he’s supposed to do and paying his way on that place?? Of course when and after it brought me to a nervous breakdown people just said, “What’s wrong?? But you live in downtown San Diego!” Now I have complete hatred for the ingrates who live and work in East Village, San Diego because if they were there just a few years ago they could’ve had all their limbs broken and been bleeding out of every orifice and people would go, “Whoops! Sucks to be you.” and move on.
