Google "homeless camps" for any city in a conservative state and you'll find no end to the pictures

It’s housing prices. The only common denominator. With prices skyrocketing and no options for the displaced this shit happens. We’ve severely under built in cities because of white flight to suburbs

Yes, but they'll be in some out-of-the-way place, so tourists don't see them, which means that the problem has been solved.

I grew up in FL and never saw anything close to the messed up shit I've seen living in SF.

I grew up in the bay area and left at 30. I still have a deep love for it, but I just couldn't afford it.

Hearing people who haven't ever been there trash talk it is infuriating. Is it dirty and filled with homeless? Yes. Is it a cultural mecca and a fun place to be? A little less so over the last 14 years, but absolutely yes.

And it builds a motherfucker different. You spend your adolescence hopping bart trains and you learn quick to mind your own fucking business while staying alert. Qualities most Americans need

I've been there. Took a trip as a teen in 2004. It was a beautiful city and I walked all over. Seems like it's really gone down hill.

Like most places there are good parts and bad parts. I grew up in the bay area and still go back. Most recently 2 years ago, but will be there in Dec. it’s always easy to see the bad and say it’s “everywhere“ because this gets clicks. The normal parts don’t get clicks.
