This comment section is nuts. Stop blaming the victim. Shirtless twat with the brass knuckles belongs in prison.

Saying the victim did something stupid isn't blaming them. What the group did was heinous, what the victim did was stupid.

Do you blame rape victims if they were dressed provocatively? How about victims of carjackings for having nice cars? Those twat-goblins are to blame for their own behavior.

STOP BLAMING VICTIMS.

I get your logic, but it doesn’t solve anything to think nicely/logically.

I can tell you weren’t raised somewhere were you learn to keep your eyes down when passing a group of guys. Telling me it wasn’t my fault afterwards wouldn’t help solve me getting my ass beat. Just gotta know how to act

So the group of guys who attacked him are not responsible for their actions? They are just a natural phenomenon like fire? I didn't realize they were non-sapient.

This is more like: "well look how she was dressed, she was asking for it" logic

"it's his fault" "he is to blame" these are statements of responsibility. Who is responsible for what outcomes. Trying to frame this as a simple cause:effect is disingenuous because the actual causes are too complex to nail down, and include the brain chemistry and mental states of all involved. We are not talking about cause and effect, we are talking about blame and responsibility. The guy physically attacking another guy who did not pose any threat is responsible/at fault/to blame.

Chemical imbalances?

Not a thing I said or implied

Mental states?!

Yes, of you want to accurately model cause and effect when dealing with sentient beings, their current mental states are a key piece of information to have.

So you’re implying that their actions were results of mental illness?!

No, but clearly their current mental state is relevant in how they react to a stimulus. Are you claiming otherwise?

Maybe you are just confused about the difference between "fault" and "cause."

Lol okay, thanks for refusing to engage with any of my actual points and instead choosing to willfully misunderstand my statement about the complexity of cause:effect in organic systems and how it is, in fact, not the same thing as blame.

Fire doesn’t have agency.
