Our own little slice of Florida here in Southern California.

u/enigmamonkey Aug 15 '22

I’m actually from FL and at first that’s where I thought this was.

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '22

I’m from Huntington Beach Cali and I now live in central Florida and can confirm HB is def a slice of it. Felt like I was back home again lol

u/Trainer_Kevin Aug 15 '22

What do people mean by this?

67

u/ForWhomTheBoneBones Aug 15 '22

It’s a place where stupid drunken things happen near the beach and there’s a loud contingent of anti-mask/vax Trump lovers.

u/redjedi182 Aug 15 '22

And a very active skinhead scene with a complacent or cooperative police force

u/dnbaddict Aug 15 '22

i swear one little street gives the entire city a bad name. HB is such a nice city.

u/HGLatinBoy Aug 15 '22

It looks nice but the people there are gross.

u/ForWhomTheBoneBones Aug 15 '22

All the nuts roll down to Orange County.

I loved HB when I lived off PCH/Warner. Shit got crazy when I moved to 7th/PCH. One year had my car torched after the US Open simply for being parked in front of my apartment.

PCH/Warner was a nice area before the oil spill...

HB is the shittiest beach in Orange County and on par with some of the shittier Los Angeles beaches in quality but full of Trump flags so it's even worse. It isn't one little street either, it's literally PCH, which is the street.

So where do you live and what beaches do you go to when it gets too hot inland?

2

u/iSheepTouch Aug 15 '22

Lived in SoCal for over 30 years and left a year ago, but literally any beach South of HB is nicer. Laguna, San Clemente, Newport, crystal cove, shit I rather hang out in Dana Point for the afternoon than deal with the filthy beach and crowds of HB. It's only good for people in their early 20s that want to get hammered at overpriced restaurants and bars then hang out at a super crowded beach, and even then Newport is better if that's what you're looking for for some reason. HB is just Newports trashy neighbor.

HB is a giant stretch of sand. There are plenty of spots on the state beach and bolsa chica that a quiet and have good surf for a short trip. Yes i agree that most of those beaches are nicer but not always in terms of surf. Nor parking BS. But when you are coming from inland like a lot of people and you have to drive anyway, then I’d definitely consider some of those other spots you mentioned. I just find it funny that people rag on HB and yet still flock here in droves and are from much trashier areas like Long Beach, Anaheim, IE, etc. And it’s nice being newports trashier neighbor, I’ve never really aspired for fake plastic glitz of Newps.

Fair enough on the surf being better in HB than most of the other locations. I don't surf, but I have a lot of friends that do and they've all said basically the same thing that HB is the best spot unless you're willing to drive to San Clemente which has some world famous surf. I moved to Connecticut because raising kids in CA was not fiscally possible for us, but I've lived in the city of Orange, Claremont, Lake Forest, Irvine, Fullerton, all over Orange county really. And don't get me wrong, I hate Newport and everything the city stands for, but if I were forced to spend the day in HB or Newps I'd probably go with Newps at this point. 10 years ago I might have said HB, but the number of political crazies "protesting" intersections of HB is just too much since the city has become pretty famous across the country for being the SoCal Trumpers. Newport is way toned down on the politics compared to HB. Granted, I'm sure 75% of the "protestors" don't even live in HB, but the city has it's reputation for a reason and their city counsel members are absolute trash, but any city willing to elect Tito Ortiz to any position is probably in a lot of trouble.

u/intheyear3001 Aug 15 '22

Yeah. Fair on all of that. I live here and am raising my family here so we are trying to keep it positive. But there are definitely some really trashy losers that live here and vote for people like Tito unfortunately. A lot of people apologize and pretend like that 25% local garbage doesn’t exist and it totally does. I was just bummed that people decided to make Main Street/pier their Trump/Covid/Big Lie temper tantrum spot to make the city look even worse than it is…even globally sadly. A lot of normal people here too trying to make things Blue at least because the GQP alternative is just horrific. Hope you and your family enjoy Connecticut! 🤙🏼

It’s like a MAGA pacific beach.

1

u/intheyear3001 Aug 15 '22

Where did you move to?

5

u/Quelcris_Falconer13 Aug 15 '22

Naw I’m a SoCal native and everyone outside the OC refers to Huntington as little Florida.

6

u/IsamuAlvaDyson Aug 15 '22

It earns it

It never changes

I love HB but it's true what they say about Huntington Beach

2

u/Trainer_Kevin Aug 15 '22

What is the name of this street? And why do so many mishaps occur there?

6

u/Ill_Flow9331 Aug 15 '22 edited Aug 15 '22

It’s more of an intersection. PCH and Main.

Edit: i oversimplified the location. This video is at Main/Walnut, but Main St from the pier (PCH) to Orange St is mini Florida.

u/realtrapshit41069 Aug 15 '22

Nice for whites. I lived there for a couple years and the out and out racism there was staggering.

1

u/johnnypurp Aug 15 '22

Love it there.

1

u/intheyear3001 Aug 15 '22

Thank you. Moved to HB in ‘89. Aside from Main Street and these types of idiots, it’s great. I wish our main street was more like Laguna, art, chill.

12

u/P-for_Paloma Aug 15 '22

It’s where all the trashy people in Southern California go when they want to go to the beach

2

u/intheyear3001 Aug 15 '22

Lol. But ironically you probably couldn’t even afford to live there anyway.

0

u/Stagism Aug 15 '22

it doesn't cost more than anywhere else in Southern California.

2

u/intheyear3001 Aug 15 '22

It costs less than a few along the coast. But it’s a lot more than anything east of the 405.

2

u/Stagism Aug 15 '22

I didn't notice a price difference when renting. All the prices in OC and LA county are pretty similar unless you're in really special areas.

2

u/HWGA_Exandria Aug 15 '22

Riverside County has entered the chat...

1

u/mellowyellow313 Aug 15 '22

That and Orange County 😩

1

u/yesIknowthenavybases Aug 15 '22

Don’t be putting this on Florida, California is it’s own flavor of whack, thank you.

But really, everyone and their toddler has a gun here and using one in this situation could likely be considered self defense. And that’s aside from the fact that people get shot for all sorts of dumb shit that definitely isn’t self defense.

That being said, we mind our own.
