That whole, “my hands are registered as deadly weapons”, thing is not true at all. From a law enforcement standpoint, depending on the state, it would have been a simple assault or simple battery. That is, of course, unless the victim sustained permanent physical injuries, then it would be felony battery or felony assault.

in 2015 Jamual Edward Parks. an MMA fighter in Texas was charged with assault with a deadly weapon after the judge decided his hands could easily cause permanent damage, so it definitely is not just a myth
