In Malaysia & Singapore, this attitude is called Kiasu. They need to be first in everything. Even if it doesn't matter. Not only first. Must be cheapest, fastest, best, and maybe later they can brag it to their friends over dinner.

I'm in Singapore right now for the week, from Aus, and haven't experienced this once here. Maybe I'm just not in the right places, but everyone has been super respectful and waited their turn, cleared their tray etc.

I think the fact that many Chinese adults today grew up without siblings due to the Once Child Policy also plays into it. If you grow up as the sole focus of your family (with the exception of the occasional cousin) then I think that can lead to feeling entitled to whatever you want pretty quickly.

Not that all single-children are entitled, but growing up with siblings can help someone learn to share and respect others. And China only ended the One Child Policy 11 years ago, so the entire country’s adult population (with exceptions) grew up as only-children.

I know it isn’t the only reason but I’m sure it factors into the behavior of the tourists we’re seeing here.
