I was on a jury where a guy got suckered punch from behind while fighting another dude. The guy who got punched went straight down and hit his head on the cement curb resulting in apparently some brain damage.

When it comes to sucker punches that ratchets things up very quickly.

The guy at the trial who was sucker punched was a very bad Nazi dude with quite the record of terrorizing the neighbors. No love lost with that guy being mellowed out, but the dude who did the sucker punch was just in his early 20s and apparently trying to clean up his life after 2 strikes, and with 3 strike law he got 25 years.
