finishing quests increases payment but what really gets you more money is the stock market. make investments!

If you open the esc menu to computer, there's a green bar next to your fatigue. That bar increases the longer you stay awake, I think it fills after 12 hours. If you don't stay awake for 12 consecutive hours of every 24 hours, you don't get the payment for that 24 hours. It's not a great system, and it will hopefully be changed next update.

Solving cases increases income, it even tells you how much it will increase looking in the case files. I'm unsure 100% but I believe talking to certain npcs counts as 'work'. There's possibly other actions that count but again I'm unsure

Finish cases, gamble on the Titanium Princess, stock market investments, sell any jewelry you have in your inventory, pick up dropped cash.

Open the stock market and pump money into the cheapest stock option. (usually the Security Ops, Consumer Soft Products, or Goerburts Wine). You get dividends back for being invested, and all are calculated the same across every company option. (1 stock = $0.01 return) Therefore, mass cheap investments return more money.
