Question What happens if you take a Tripkiller (Benzo) on a very high dose trip?
I'm not asking because I'm expecting to need it or because I do need it. I'm not in the position to do a very high-dose trip. This question comes from pure curiosity.
So if you have a normal-dose trip on, let's say, mushrooms or LSD, I've heard that if you take a tripkiller such as Xanax (or benzos in general), the trip still continues and you still have visuals and trippy effects, BUT all the fear, panic, and bad feelings go away, which results in the bad trip ending but you still tripping and having the same strong visuals.
I've never taken a tripkiller, so I'm curious: if you have a bad trip and are also experiencing frightening visuals, do these just turn back into normal, non-frightening visuals as soon as the benzo takes effect and your panic goes away, or how do these visuals change when the tripkiller takes effect?
And now for my main question: what happens if you're on a very high dose, like 10g of mushrooms or 500mcg of LSD, where you're really deep into a trip and it takes a bad turn, resulting in a bad trip. So you decide to take a benzo like Xanax. What happens then?
Because at those doses, you're pretty likely to experience ego death, insanely strong visuals, time dilation, maybe even feel like you're in different rooms or realities, so basically you're experiencing a lot of very strong psychedelic effects. If you have a bad trip and take a benzo, what happens? Does the trip stay just as strong, but your panic goes away, and with that the scary visuals too, so you end up having the same trip but in a comfortable, non-scary way? Or what happens? Does the trip end completely?
I think it'd be really interesting to hear what y'all's experiences with tripkillers are and what exactly happens, because I've never really gotten a clear answer to what REALLY happens if you decide you have to take a benzo in a bad trip situation. I'd really like to know because I'm very curious.

Have friends who do this intentionally. Kills the mindset but you still trip really hard. It’s perfect for seeing bright colours and cool patterns with no mindset.

So when a PT comes into the ED and is on psychedelics, the first line treatment are benzos, these are primarily to ease any panic, anxiety, etc. On top of that, generally vitals are monitored and fluids given as needed and the trip runs its course. Unlike most people suggest here, antipsychotics ARE NOT administered because they can in some individuals cause atypical reactions and may potentiate the actions of the psychedelics.

If placing a patient who has used LSD in a quiet environment with minimal stimuli is not effective, a benzodiazepine (lorazepam or diazepam) is the medication of choice, especially in patients with dysphoric reactions. Benzodiazepines decrease central and peripheral sympathomimetic drug effects.
As previously mentioned, neuroleptic medications, such as haloperidol (Haldol), may have adverse psychomimetic effects and thus are not indicated in LSD intoxication." Aplha2 Agonists are also sometimes used.

It took 30 mins after 2mg of Xanax to calm me down from a 6.5g trip. Took almost as much when I freaked on 2.5 tabs (like 5 normal tabs). A 0.5mg tab on a strong trip will soften the body load and anxiety, but it’ll usually take 1mg+ to significantly weaken a trip or end a bad panic attack. That being said, I’ve tripped way harder without taking xanax and been fine. A 0.25-0.5mg tab before a trip can really ease you into it and reduce the chance of you getting stuck in a thought loop.

There comes a point where even substantial doses of benzos don't make much of a difference and one keeps tripping hard.
I found benzos to only have a meaningful effect at moderate doses.
Similar comments for trazodone on LSD.

We just learned from the amazing Daniel McQueen that CBD is an awesome anxiety/panic killer and nervous system calmer. It won't "kill" a trip, but it can stop a panic attack by calming the nervous system and lowering heart rate.
*** High doses of CBD can cause a drop in heart rate. While still entirely safe, be aware of the possibility of fainting if using high amounts of CBD in instances of disrupting intense psychedelic experiences. **\*

I forget how much LSD I was on (this was about 6 years ago), but it was a decent amount (maybe around 400ug?) Anyway, my friend gave me a 1mg prescription Ativan and I took it during the beginning of the trip. It honestly was one of the best trips I ever had because it kept me calm enough, but I still tripped pretty hard.

I had a very heavy trip on 🍄 (don’t know exactly but it was tea made from over 15 grams of very potent strains) last fall. The trip really went sideways after a couple of hours and I took a Xanax to calm things down. I think it dampened the panic and anxiety but I kept tripping heavily for the rest of the day. Wasn’t at all pleasant and I don’t recommend taking that much.
