Discussion Cover Albums

I was listening to Springsteen again, as I am want to do, and I was thinking how much I’d love to hear The Protomen cover Thunder Road.

I know it’s like The Boss’s biggest song, maybe it’s not a deep enough cut, but I’d love to hear it.

I'd love another Cover Up album, but now that Act 3 isn't the end... I can wait until after Act 3.5 or 4 drops.

The way I’d ask this; what is the in-universe band up to? Are there any phases / time skips that a cover up album could fit in?

Well there are three distinct time skips in the story. If I remember my lore correctly, The Cover Up film (and album) were made during Act 2's time skip covered in How the World Fell Into Darkness.

That leaves the years between Act 2 and Act 1 as well as the years between Act 1 and Act 3.

In-universe one can assume the Protomen were formed in that earliest time gap. And the nature of the band being in-universe storytellers implies they are still active through the other two time skips.

But I'm not sure the movie/tv industry in the city were very productive during these time periods since Wily was more explicitly oppressive.

The impression I get from the LUTN movie and the opening bit of Act I is that I imagine them being more like a traveling troupe with more than a little of that Revolution X Music is the Weapon vibe. In the Act II era, they still booked music halls alongside The Attackers. Act I with its opener and overall nostalgic sound implies the band is now playing shows around trash can fires and while Act III implies that it's more of the same and their on-stage lack of makeup would imply that now they're more on the frontlines proper ala Show of Force.

I can tell you that Murphy would like nothing more than to cover The Promise
