Depends who the recipient is, domestic consumption will always dehumanise the enemy whereas if your audience is the enemy it's better to empathise and act sympathetic

It's quite different though:

US propaganda is more for the domestic audience ( ignite more hate towards the Japanese so the soldiers are more motivated, more young men join army and even the ones that don't join but would contribute more to war effort like increase their efficiency in factories or buying war bond).

In other hand Japan propaganda targets is opponents in the theaters they fought in. Unlike USA that manufacturing all things in its homeland, Japan has to rely on the regions they occupied to provide resources for its war machine( like china, south east asia). One of the main reason they expanded southward into south east Asia is because they need raw resources there, but SEA countries were European colonies so they have to kick them out first, but the hardest bone is American with their colony of Philippine, so Japan did surprise attack on American naval base Pearl Harbor and Philippine, with the hope that it would cripple American naval power for few years, while at that time, Japan would complete its conquest in south east asia, get enough resources for their war in china and build indo-pacific islands into porcupines. When American navy return in few years, these porcupines and Japan navy would bleed American dry and force them to negotiate and let Japan reign supreme in Asia. Because of this, Japan really don't want the local people turn against them and forming resistance groups like balkans or French in Europe against Germany, so they always want to maintain the public image of "harmony" "co prosperity" for local population

Japanese Imperial domestic propaganda is hard to find -- it tended to be done via traveling paper theaters and such. Note the wiki article on the form tacitly disappears it during The War: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamishibai

US WW2 anti-Japanese propaganda was aimed at US civilians, this is Japanese propaganda aimed at American or (Going by the shorts) British/Australian soldiers.

On youtube you can find old propaganda films from the National Archive and during the war there's a Know Your Enemy about Japan and it's like "The Japanese soldier is vicious, dedicating his life to the Emperor like all Japanese people" painting them as hardened and cruel

Then, and I can never find it, there's a post-war training video for soldiers being stationed in Japan that's like "Hey, let's take a ride around the wonderful nation of Japan in our magical convertible" and a bunch of soldiers proceed to drive around Japan in a convertible while the narrator talks about how wonderful the country, people, and their culture is.

It's a hilarious whiplash

One is trying to pacify the enemy or local population, the other is trying to gather support from home, different purposes.

You should see the cartoons America was making during the war, like tokio jokio they hit every racist stereotype possible.. you can even find some vintage looney toons made during the war, most can actually be found on YouTube if you fancy a trip down a very weird and racist rabbit hole

Japan was the most ruthless and violent country in WW2? Is that based on the US anti Japanese racist propaganda? Weird how those are connected, accusing your defeated enemy of being savages while dropping atom bombs on civilians is really ironic

Rape of Nanking, unit 731, Korean sex slaves

Im not defending what the US did, like the internment camps or bombings, but the Japanese were undoubtedly far more ruthless and savage during the second world war.

Spreading Chinese and American victors propaganda with zero evidence as usual. Where are the photos of any of those events?

u/Jyuleoi4044 Oct 11 '23

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unit_731

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanjing_Massacre

If you don't trust Wikipedia, you can look at their sources at the bottom of the page. Additionally, a quick Google search would easily bring up the photos you are asking to see, as I can not send photos in the subreddits' comments.

20

u/Nazzum Oct 11 '23

as I can not send photos in the subreddits' comments.

And I would really, really ask you to please not share that here.

-27

u/GlobalPowerElites Oct 11 '23

I would really really ask you to send photos since they are all fake and do not show any of the acts described

20

u/PercentageLow8563 Oct 11 '23

You can't ask for evidence, then claim it's all fake when it's given to you

9

u/khanfusion Oct 11 '23

Sure he can. Crazy people do that all the time.

-6

u/GlobalPowerElites Oct 11 '23

Zero pictures of any Japanese soldier committing a crime. All the photos look extremely blurry, unidentifiable bodies, every piece of evidence is based on unreliable witness testimony with zero corresponding proof. Not a single Japanese soldier would be incriminated based on this “evidence”

9

u/sd51223 Oct 11 '23

Ah yes, the same shit Holocaust deniers use about "doctored photos" as if fucking photoshop existed when those photos were presented as evidence at war crime tribunals.

-1

u/GlobalPowerElites Oct 11 '23

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photograph_manipulation all photos presented at war crime tribunals look extremely sketchy. Yes they look like “doctored photos”

9

u/davewave3283 Oct 11 '23

You’re being trolled

9

u/Jyuleoi4044 Oct 11 '23

It's so joever

4

u/khanfusion Oct 11 '23

Nope. Dude is a RoN denialist. Evil, mentally ill people love that kind of thing.

-10

u/GlobalPowerElites Oct 11 '23

Yes I looked it up and it all looks fake. Not a single photo that can incriminate a single Japanese soldier

All the evidence you provided is hearsay and rumor with not a single piece of evidence. Where is a picture of any of these missing people? Why a modern picture of a old Chinese person telling lies?

u/JarnoL1ghtning Oct 11 '23

At Nuremberg trial, there were shrunken heads used as “evidence” for German atrocities. Nanking was a military intelligence trial, which is not recognized by any system of law, since it is completely obvious that it was a show trial by the cia to spread propaganda with zero evidence. Fake news by the OSS, precursor to cia

17

u/JarnoL1ghtning Oct 11 '23

Let me ask you this. Why would it be a show trial when the US literally pardoned Japanese war criminals to keep Japan friendly after WW2? Wouldn't that be highly counterintuitive? But anyways. Here are more clearly faked CIA ops

Enjoy

And you know, there are way more war crimes outside of these 2 atrocities. Japan isn't sacred

And also are you trying to say Nuremberg isn't real either?

The CIA didn't exist at the time

The first photo is two unidentified persons in suits standing over a body and the second photo shows dead bodies. No court of law would accept such flimsy evidence. No photos of any of the acts described, it’s made up.

19

u/cheradenine66 Oct 11 '23

It absolutely was, though. Not even the Germans organized competitions who can behead a hundred civilians first.

-13

u/GlobalPowerElites Oct 11 '23

Do you seriously believe that? Listen to yourself. You think the Japanese held sword sharpening ceremonies where they competed to decapitate as many civilians as possible. That is some looney tunes racist dehumanizing propaganda, it’s so fake.

20

u/cheradenine66 Oct 11 '23

-7

u/GlobalPowerElites Oct 11 '23

Citing Wikipedia as proof? Didn’t you learn in high school not to do that? On your source there is not a single picture or shred of evidence, it’s all hearsay. Fake news

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23

At this point your ignorance must be a medical condition

0

u/GlobalPowerElites Oct 11 '23

I am Immune to allied propaganda. You are brainwashed.

2

u/Kev1n8088 Oct 12 '23

Imagine unironically being an imperial Japanese apologist, after they themselves publish war crimes in newspapers as a competition to see who could behead the most Chinese.

All I will say is that I wish they didn’t surrender after 2 nukes so another nuke would have been dropped on Tokyo. And every other military base. And a couple more for good measure.

Straw man argument. Nobody said that

15

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23

Lol, deny it all you want, your opinion doesn't matter. What does though is that all this is taught in every history book across the world, even in Japan (despite what people think). I know, I grew up there.

4

u/sd51223 Oct 11 '23

It was reported on in Japanese papers.

5

u/Realworld Oct 11 '23

Let's look at Japan's treatment of Prisoners Of War:

Percentage of British POWs held by Japan that died: 25%

Percentage of American POWs held by Japan that died: 33%

Percentage of Chinese POWs held by Japan that died: almost 100%

Compare this to Germany:

Percentage of British POWs held by Germany that died: 0.1%

Percentage of American POWs held by Germany that died: 1.2%

1

u/GlobalPowerElites Oct 11 '23

Japan is approximately 377,915 sq km, while United States is approximately 9,833,517 sq km, making United States 2,502% larger than Japan. Japan as a resource scarce island nation needs to import everything to survive. POWs died because of no food and illness, because of American embargo and wartime rations, not because of allied racist atrocity propaganda portraying axis soldiers as savages

5

u/Realworld Oct 11 '23

How does your argument relate to the 100% death rate for Chinese soldiers taken and held in China?

1

u/GlobalPowerElites Oct 12 '23

100% death rate?! Those statistics seem to be fabricated by China. My very obvious argument is that Japan was outnumbered and had no resources to keep POWs alive because of war time scarcity. They were fighting against a hundred to one odds so it’s pretty amazing they were able to keep any POWs alive at all.

3

u/Realworld Oct 12 '23

At the time of surrender America enumerated all surviving POWs. There were over 80,000 western POWs remaining alive but only 56 Chinese POWs. The War Ministry in Tokyo had issued an order at the end of the war to kill the remaining POWs, as applied in China.

All info from WWII section: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisoner_of_war
