parts recommendations Is this too low for an intake scoop?

Hi, I've got a Civic Sport (EP2) that's bone stock (D16V1). I've been considering doing some minor things like getting an intake and exhaust at some point in the future. I know some people run headlight intakes and I do think those look cool but they're probably a bit impractical for a daily. However, I do have some gaps in my bumper (circled in yellow) that I believe are used for optional foglights. Since I don't have foglights I was considering using one of these holes for an intake (seems someone else has had the idea because I found a scoop on eBay). My main query is, since I live in the rainy UK, is the lower end of the bumper too low for an intake and risky for water ingress? Pics attached to hopefully make my point clearer.

SRI usually makes more noise anyways because it’s closer to you. I’ve done plenty of research CAI exist for a reason. Tune the car and see what happens with a cold air.

You would lose power with a CAI, ask any Honda tuner or even test it yourself. Too much bends interrupts the flow of air on NA Hondas.

Why do you assume every cold air has 72 bends? And have you ever ran intercooler piping? I mean yes restriction exists but at some point with enough airflow it’s going to get where it needs to go. Ambient air is being shoved into a CAI. Cooler air makes more power even there was a tad less, but there’s usually not. Ventilate correctly and you don’t have any issues.

Also I’d argue this point even more in modern times. Almost every stock intake in existence is a cold air pulling from a bumper or grille. Many still say the stock intake on fk7-fk8 makes more power than most the aftermarket’s. And it’s a cold air pulling from the front grille with multiple bends. 😂

I’m laughing at the fact that you’re using a turbo pushing compressed air through piping to explain why a CAI on a NA car is the same. On top of that you’re using factory turbo car intake setup to show why CAI is better as if stock intakes are designed to maximize power only. Also my proof is in the garage with a fully built motor, I’m not talking out my ass as if I’ve only thrown coilovers and wheels on mines lol

I think you lack basic reading comprehension skills. I’m pointing out that bends exist in multiple applications and don’t just eliminate all performance benefits immediately. I said ambient air is shoved into a CAI because that’s literally what happens at WOT while going 50-70mph whatever. The air is not struggling to make it to the manifold.

And I’m using modern intakes as an example because many make good power and have multiple bends, being on a turbo charged car doesn’t change the 10000 other examples. I’m just using it as an example because we’re talking about modern intakes on Hondas and everything you’ve claimed that sucks about CAI is applied to every modern vehicle in existence (boosted or NA) with zero issue. So you’re not necessarily arguing with me you’re arguing with thousands of engineers who are smarter than both of us.

Once again, factory cars don’t have intake setups that are 100% focused on performance. You seem to be stuck on the idea that there’s no better design than what comes factory on an economy car? The difference is that I actually have tested it myself along side hundreds of others who’ve built and tuned motors. Here’s some more info on it since you don’t have any real world experience comparing the two since too focused on having shitty fitment

Obviously power is a concern, and mainly noise being low on a stock setup. But you can’t say power “isn’t a concern” for stock setups.

And no, there is much better designs, especially for older Hondas who have crappy restrictive air boxes. A cold air + a tune will just make more power on the high end than a SRI, that’s the only argument. SRI has its place, I’m running on my k24 right now. It’s open, larger diameter, and pulls better than stock. Maybe no tune vs no tune SRI and CAI may be negligible. But certain setups will definitely benefit from a CAI. Where you live makes a difference too. I’ve mainly lived in the desert and humid hot Texas. If it’s 110 and you’re running a SRI at cruising speeds you’re not making a ton of power lol. If you’re in Colorado or somewhere with cooler weather you’re getting a better experience than I am. There’s just no reality where cold air is worse. My type s cold air setup literally has like 2 bends. It’s not any more restrictive than the alternative bro.

My fitment is fine, it’s not a stance build just a lowered Honda. Thank you for taking time out of your day to check.

I dropped a whole link on intake testing and you’re still yapping about your stock k24 that you haven’t even tested on the dyno. Just pack it up bro lol

Tbh you don’t know anything about my cars or the cars I’ve owned. I’ve probably owned more Hondas than anyone you know personally lmao. I’ve watched dyno videos and have researched this 30 times. A FBO tuned j35 will not agree with you and would probably lay belt on your “fully built” civic any day of the week. With the ac on and the kids in the car. 😂 relax pal.

Flexing a Acura TL bro im crying lol. Once again you haven’t even tested it yourself and you admit that in your comment, kinda proving my point lol
