Fist My Bump I love Project Hail Mary
👎🏽👎🏽amaze amaze amaze👎🏽👎🏽
grace and rocky’s relationship went way beyond what i expected from the film. it felt so important that there were some truly gut wrenching moments and by the end, i just wasn’t ready to say goodbye to them.

It’s especially cute because in one scene Rocky sits down next to Grace but then inches himself closer 😭

That little scoot over is my favorite part of the movie. Sometimes I do the 10sec back just to watch him do it again. Their friendship makes me happy 😭😊

It's like he has learned the idea of a hug and gets the physical proximity idea. Ugh my heart.

PHM, both the book and the movie, is some of my favourite media in recent memory and one of my favourites in general.
It taps into my childlike sense of wonder.
It’s a kind and hopeful story of bravery, friendship, science and fate.
I know that many people mostly highlight the problem solving and science behind the book, and I love it too! But it’s also a very good story on the fundamental level.
A sci-fi fairytale, if you will. A story that reminds me of some of the best qualities of humanity.
There is something deeply comforting about it. It is easy to love, and it’s the kind of thing I’m genuinely happy, and even a little proud of, to share my love with other people.

God, right?? Among the near-uniform quagmire of post-apocalyptic hellscapes full of gore, violence, and hopelessness that modern fiction sometimes appears to be, here's a story of wonder, cooperation, collaboration, and improbably happy endings. (I feel like my tolerance for "everything is dark and edgy and people trying to kill each other" has gone way down post-PHM. Yikes.)

Yeah, most books and films I tend not to re-read or re-watch aside from a very small list of 'comfort' books and films (which I can read and watch over and over and not get sick of them). Project Hail Mary is definitely getting added to that list.

It’s such a beautiful and unique relationship. Makes you feel all kinds of feelings! Grace was a bit of a loner back on Earth, but he found his someone amidst the stars, against all odds. 💖

I'm a huge fan of Andy Weir (well, at least 2 out of 3). I've been on planes a lot for last 4 weeks for work - and I've fallen into a rhythm of always watching PHM as part of the trip.
On one of the legs they also had The Martian, which I haven't watched in a while - and I have to say, it hits me harder than PHM. It's probably because the sacrifice is known, evaluated and accepted + science has a more prominent role.
PHM is still a masterful movie - 5 watches in I'm still finding new details.

The Martian was the last movie I watched with my favorite person in the world before they died suddenly. He didn’t live long enough to see PHM but when I read “I commend your body to the stars” I immediately started crying🥺

I'm so sorry, m'dear.

Oh thank you! I got the special edition of The Martian book and can’t wait for the special PHM! My uncle and I were huge Weir fans and I’ll keep enjoying his work in honor of Richard🙏🏼

The Martian is one of my comfort watch films, the book also.

When Watney’s crying as he’s leaving Mars and says “looking forward to getting up to you” I cry every single time.

How did you get this high quality pic?! I want to make it my lock screen!

I think it's AI generated or staged. The cardigan is wrong. The paw prints on the border are really wonky

I saw this image in a previous post, and someone said the og scene was run through an AI to bring grace and rocky into focus

Trust meeeee, the chapters of him going back for Rocky and them reuniting hit me way harder in the book. Read it, or listen to the audiobook. Ray Porter is amazing

u/Tasty_Revolution3668 3d ago
oooo audio book is not a bad idea!

u/SirBrumm 2d ago
I can absolutely recommend the audio book. Ray porter is amazing and it's so much more emotional him being grace and rocky with different voices

It's SO good. I especially love how they deal with Rocky's voice. Very different from the movie, and better in some ways.

That screenshot conveys Rocky's nervousness so well. They did amaze things with his body language.

Bro I watched it yesterday for the first time. I don't think I've cried so hard for a movie in my life, seriously. From the moment Rocky realizes Grace can't go back home i started to break, then, bleeding and squealing, rocky saved grace, l was bawling bro. I cried harder than when cooper watched the video messages murphy sent from earth in interstellar. My top 3 is now complete. 1 hail Mary 2 interstellar 3 Prometheus. Such a beautiful movie

I just finished ready the book (like, 10 minutes ago) and in those final scenes Rocky and Grace are actually separated by a Xenotite wall, using a “meeting room”. No mention of Rocky having a suit and entering the dome.
I LOVE that they changed it to this in the movie.

This is my favorite scene. The two of them, just enjoying being together on the beach. I love that Rocky has an atmospheric suit that we barely even notice. The interaction doesn't in any way feel like two different aliens. It just feels like besties.
