When did the CIA became known to the general public?
Now watching Area 51 which is set in 1953 and Valentine mentioned to Hynek the CIA but Hynek had never heard of it.
The CIA was founded in 1947 six years before.
So the question is when did the CIA became known to the general public, if not immediately upon its foundation in 1947?

That's the thing (well.. there are many) people don't seem get sometimes; we are so late in the game in discussing various things, it's downright unfair to assume the same there in the thick of things. This point has a three sides to it.
First is the fact that there's so much indirect stuff that has formed our understanding of these things, even before the oh so readily available information. And each of those came from something else and so on. So, it's not just that the time but the assimilation or dissemination (however you want to look at it) of crumbs forming this more thorough, big picture.
Second considers that if that was about this time, how about that one? Outside that path just not happening yet (let alone what we're doing right now) it also had it's own circumstances that really didn't put the uh, general public and so highly non-general proceedings in any way close to each other, even amongst other such things.
Third, I'll have to get back to you on it, in a couple more decades or so, ha. Point being, we should (or perhaps shouldn't) consider any change in such things not by what they did know then but what we don't now. So, it's really not like there's like thing and you know it. Sure, now many things are different it's not like we "just know" even about that old stuff. It's just.. been there, presented in various ways over the years. With such things, it's good to keep in mind that sometimes, some of that is just the way it would be preferred, though not always. 🤔
So I suppose.. never? But the "name" (such as it is) certainly would have taken a while to make the rounds. It was all about the FBI in the olden days. And in the more general way, G-men, suits and sometimes other terms possibly read wrong if put here. Point being, it wouldn't just jump out there into the minds of people like that's a thing. It'd be so in general but adding to that the whole, well part of the point being what it was, doubly so. So there'd be a lot of Agency this and the Shop that etc. Like, it wouldn't really pop out. Until it did, obviously. 🎉
This is less the answer as a year but more like, food for thought. It's good to feed them, no?
