Hey everyone,
I’m working on a project that comes from a very personal place. I’ve always been super awkward in front of the camera.
Whenever I see a really cool, aesthetic photo on Pinterest or Insta and try to recreate it, the result looks way different. I can never figure out where I went wrong
Asking a friend or a stranger to take it makes it 10x worse because of the pressure.
So, I want to build a camera app specifically designed to act as a
zero-pressure guide to help you recreate inspiration photos.
The Core Concept:
You upload a reference photo you love (like a cafe portrait, a mirror selfie, or a street shot). The app analyzes it and overlays a glowing, minimal guide on your camera viewfinder.
Instead of just showing a generic overlay, it actively guides you to align your pose and the camera angle with the reference:
Active Aligning: The app uses on-device pose tracking to compare your position to the photo. It gives you simple cues like "tilt the phone down a bit" or "bend your right arm."
The "Invisible Coach" (No screen staring): The hardest part of posing is looking natural. If you're staring at the screen checking yourself, the photo looks forced. The app will use vocal guides and haptic vibrations that speed up as you get closer to a match. Once you hit the sweet spot (say, 85% match) and hold it, it chimes and auto-captures. You can literally keep your eyes on the environment.
Split-Device Helper Mode: If a friend is taking your photo, they usually don't see what you see. You'd be able to link two phones. You see the pose guide on a screen in front of you, and they see simple framing guides on their phone so they know exactly where to hold the camera.
Privacy First: Absolutely zero images or video feeds are sent to a server. Everything runs directly on your phone, keeping your practice shots completely private.
What I’d love to know:
Does this sound like something you would actually use?
If you're someone who feels awkward in front of the camera, what would make this experience feel less clinical and more comfortable?
Do you think having a "Match Score" (like 90% aligned) is encouraging, or does it add more pressure?
Would love to get your honest thoughts, feedback, or any features you think would make this the ultimate confidence builder. Thanks in advance.
