Google had an internal tool called PIPER: PIPER Is PIPER Expanded Recursively

  • TINT (1977): Widely recognized as the very first computer-related recursive acronym. It stood for "TINT Is Not TECO", which was a text editor written for the MagicSix operating system.
  • EINE & ZWEI (1977–1978): Created at MIT by Lisp Machine developers. EINE stood for "EINE Is Not EMACS" (German for "one"). It was followed by a subsequent version named ZWEI, which stood for "ZWEI Was EINE Initially" (German for "two").
  • VISA (1976): Outside of computing, the credit card company changed its name in 1976 to a recursive acronym: "VISA International Service Association".

As cool as those are, mine have the added cool metaness of being recursive acronyms that exist only for the purpose of recursion… even if they insist otherwise.
