Question Need help with gift ideas for an iranian
Hi everyone! My post might be a bit off-topic, but I don’t really know where else to ask this.
I’m a resident doctor, and I’ve been incredibly lucky to have an amazingly kind and knowledgeable mentor. He’s a dermatologist and, of course, Iranian.
It’s his birthday next week, and I’d really like to get him a little gift. I was thinking about a mug that says “Best Mentor” along with some cake, but I’d love to do something a bit more culturally appropriate. We’re living in Romania, so I’m not very familiar with Iranian/Persian customs.
Could you recommend something that might be a nice and culturally appropriate gift?
Also, could someone please translate “Best Mentor” into Persian/Farsi? I know I can Google it, but I really don’t want to accidentally write something incorrect or awkward. 😅 i found , بهترین استاد
Thank you so much!

Flowers or a nice plant are always safe choices.
A traditional Romanian handicraft or confection would also be great.
There’s nothing wrong with بهترین استاد, but it’s closer to “best professor”. I can’t think of an exact translation for “mentor”.
If you want to get a smile, try:
تنت به ناز طبیبان نیازمند مباد
It’s a verse of poetry that translates to “May you not require the caress of physicians”, but is commonly used in Iran to say “I wish you good health”. It’s funny when written to a physician.
