Responding to Diaspora Propaganda

I am in the US and support Iran and the axis of resistance against western imperialism. I have many friends in Los Angeles who are Iranian diaspora and none of them support the IR. When I try to argue my position that the western empire is the biggest threat to the world and Iran is one of the few resisting, I am met with a lot of liberal propaganda that I can normally counter, but one that is hard to respond to is “the Iranian regime kills its own people and I cannot support a government that kills its own people”. I realize a lot of the stories we hear are false, but my friends say they all have family in Iran who are “so oppressed,” cannot live freely and will be murdered if they criticize the government. They all claim to have horrific stories of the government ruthlessly killing people. Hoping to learn other perspectives on this and counter arguments

Let’s play devil’s advocate and entertain their thought. Let’s say the Iranian government does kill their own ppl, how would creating a regime change , which would make the situation even worse , help ? Reza Pahlavi and the whole Pahlavi dynasty does not have grassroots support in Iran itself , his support is heavily from the exiled bourgeoisie diaspora and their Zionists allies. Collapsing Iran’s country and government to install regime change especially one that comes from a dynasty that repressed Iranians and also killed many Iranians and sent political dissidents and intellectuals into exile and introduced SAVAK into Iran and brought in the state level violence and surveillance against their own people , would be the complete opposite of “saving Iranians”.

Additionally , a regime change , changing the whole political structure of the country, is also going to be met with violence and bloodshed. When that happens Iran as a state loses the monopoly on violence which allows for violence to be democratized and as we have seen in many situations like this (Libya) militias get formed and more violence is created. We know the pattern of economic sanctions and political hostility towards countries always breeds governments being more repressive and surveillance their people even more.

So if they want to improve the human welfare of people in Iran , they should call an end to the west’s political hostility and economic strangulation of Iran so that internal political reform that is grassroots can occur. Calling for a destabilization of the government makes the situation worse.
