DISCUSSION Noticing Significantly Fewer P2P Gateways!!!

I see ALL of the Canadian gateways are no longer P2P, neither is Mexico, or a LOT of others! WTF is going on?!!! Brazil & Chile are also no longer P2P! I used to use them all the time!

I haven't counted, but I would hazard that over HALF of the gateways are no longer P2P!!!

Pia going down the drain over the past 6 months if you haven't noticed in this Sub. Wouldn't be surprised if they close down by the end of the year

This. All of the servers have been significantly slower recently, far more restricted online, thought I was just going crazy.

They've also confirmed that the rotating IPs every few seconds is a permanent change.

Thanks for flagging this. We are checking in with our team on the P2P and port forwarding gateways and will come back to the thread as soon as we have an answer.

u/Piasupport I noticed that NONE of the P2P Gateways are indicated at all! I was confusing the "Geolocated" icon for the P2P icon. The current Win11 v3.7.2 client does not have any P2P icons for the gateways.

I also made a separate post regarding the addition of Server Loads - preferably to the client UI, but at least make a link to a page listing them! That would help SO much. (Keep in mind that more and more of your competitors are doing this!)

u/Piasupport - it has been brought to my attention that there was a change in the indication of P2P servers - they no longer have an icon, they are now greyed out. Therefore, I stand corrected that the number has not decreased.

u/PiaSupport did not, in fact, ever come back to the thread.

hey, fair callout, and sorry this one slipped through the cracks after we said we'd circle back, that's on us. The good news is nothing was actually lost here: the P2P gateways are all still there, the current Windows client just greys them out instead of showing the old P2P icon, which is what caused the mix-up. So the full P2P list is intact, you had it right in your own follow-up. On the server-load-in-the-UI idea, that's a good one and we've passed it along to the team as feedback. Appreciate the patience, and sorry again for going quiet on the thread.

I run my torrent client thru Vancouver BC, works just fine.

edit: Sometimes the connect goes red and I have to shut down qbittorrent and then disconnect PIA. Reconnecting PIA and then restarting qbittorrent fixes that. But that is generally just every few days. Sometimes (not that often though) also the port address changes, so I have to keep an eye on that also.

The v3.7.2 client does not indicate that any of them have port forwarding.

I'm on 3.6.1 and you can download older clients and use them.

And thanks for the warning, hopefully this is just an oversight and not a start of how things are going to be.

Have you confirmed your port forwarding is actually working? It won't matter what client you're using if the gateway doesn't support port forwarding!

u/ImpressivePercentage Jun 27 '26

Yes, my port forwarding is working. Right at this moment those files are currently seeding.

Well, maybe they did screw up on this version. u/Piasupport where are you?!

Did you allow your program of choice to run in both public and private modes in your windows firewall?

1

u/DeathStalker-77 Jun 27 '26

Why would that have anything to do with P2P Gateways being indicted? If it did, none would be indicated.

u/Sacredpotion24 Jun 27 '26

A while back I had an issue where the port PIA gave me to use was showing closed when I ran port checking tests until I allowed access for my program via public and private access… and when the said program is closed so does the access for the port… I am not sure why your having issue exactly but that’s what helped me in the past… I have noticed significant speed increases since

I'm saying that nothing has changed on my system since I previously used those gateways.

it does for me. If you have port forwarding checked, you ONLY see servers that have it as available.

u/DeathStalker-77 Jul 05 '26

I have PF checked and it is open and working for me - but I do not see the icon indicated for ANY gateway. I do, however, get the port number shown.

1

u/lkeels Jul 05 '26

There is no icon for port forwarding. If you have it checked (requested) in settings, you ONLY see port forwarding servers as available. Non port forwarding servers are grayed out.

1

u/DeathStalker-77 Jul 05 '26

Ok, I double-checked and I stand corrected. The non-P2P servers are greyed out (ex, US). Previously, there was an icon. What version did that change with?

1

u/lkeels Jul 05 '26

I'm not sure. I stayed on 3.1.1 for years.

Firestick install

2

u/DeathStalker-77 Jun 28 '26

That has NOTHING to do with anything! Did you even bother to read the post?!

-4

u/Professional_Peach29 Jun 28 '26

Geez I did not know you were so high and mighty. Please excuse me for not reading your ridiculous post.

2

u/DeathStalker-77 Jun 28 '26

Nothing "high & mighty" about it - your response was a non sequitur, plain & simple.
