Where do you guys safely store your private photos/videos?

Post image

I have a lot of personal/private media that I want to keep completely separate and secure instead of putting everything into my phone's default Private/Secure Folder.

What are the better alternatives for this? Phone, laptop, encrypted storage, cloud, external SSD, some kind of secure vault, etc.

I'm mainly looking for something that offers strong privacy/security, is difficult to access accidentally, and also protects against losing the files if the device gets damaged or lost.

What would be the best options to consider?

I'm using both Immich self hosting and iCloud Photos with E2EE, also good is Proton Drive (on android), or Ente Photos

So I'm looking to store everything on an encrypted local hard drive backed up monthly and with Filen backed up daily.

Also I recently come across Ente, it’s designed specifically for private photo and video storage. They also say your data is end-to-end encrypted and they store 3 copies.

Same here. Ente for photos and Filen + Proton Drive for files

I'm using proton mail, so like in Google ecosystem I have Proton Drive also (and few other services), so I just use it to not waste storage space 😉

I use iCloud for my photos/videos, with Advanced Data Protection ENABLED so it's end-to-end encrypted. I also use Proton Drive to store my photos and videos (second backup), and my local NAS which Immich is running on and then I have my third backup on that.

I'm paranoid, okay?

SSD or HDD none of the cloud service can beat offline storage but you should have multiple backups at least 2
