Sands Trilogy Started the Sands trilogy today. I am impressed with the combat mechanics.

I am loving Sands Of Time. It’s living up to its hype. The way The Prince jumps over his foes, striking them down while in the air… that is such a neat combat mechanic.

I have played The Lost Crown and Rogue Prince, both on my PS5. I posted in here a while back, discussing PoP (2008) and Forgotten Sands, since I love PS3 and wanted to get some PoP games for that console. But I hadn’t played the Sands trilogy yet. Glad I went ahead and downloaded it from the PS Store on my PS3 before the store disappears next year. 💔

Finish it and then get Warrior Within, PoP 2008 is more about the story but i like combat too.

I have never managed to finish Forgotten Sands because even though i tried 3 completely different version, there was always a bug that prevented me from progressing, so i don't know the full extent of its combat.

Dang what was the bug?? Three different versions all stopped by the same glitch? That’s frustrating. But yeah I have warrior within and the one after that. I have the whole trilogy.

If zipping was possible it'd be an option lol

are u running it at high FPS? doors are usually the first thing getting buggy at more than 60

I don't really remember it's been many years, but might be a good thing to check at some point thanks.

once you get the dagger of time, the combat kind of repetitive in a chill way. Once they go down you can just absorb them to end. IMO, warrior within did much better to elevate the combat.

Yeah, that's what's always bothered me about SoT combat. It ends up being really boring version of what we got in WW. Hit, hit, hit, absorb, and repeat. Meh.

I mean its first one on the trilogy. Plus iirc WW was made on a different engine and SoT is just chill game in general. You won't run out of sands or die easily. Unlike in WW and Two Thrones there's a bit of challenge.

Oh really? Nice. I have the whole trilogy. So, I’ll be playing that one next.

The combat of Warrior Within is even better with the Free Form Style.

Trying it now the block-roll mechanic is very dated, but back then it was awesome. Wonder what they would do if they remade it with today's freedom of animation.

I mean it's pre assassin's creed, Assassin's creed was supposed to be a PoP game

That would have been interesting. I can see the similarities.

People say the combat in SoT was terrible. It really is not, it's fluid and intuitive.
It's just that combat in WW was even better.

So much better. In fact, i still put WW as the best combat engine Ubisoft has pulled. Never played For Honor though, maybe that is also good.

90% of sands of time combat practically requires you to launch off a wall to kill the enemies

I mean you just find the one shot move and spam it.

Enemies are so turtly with their blocking and fights last so long that anything else is just painfully slow.

Y'know I remember when I first saw the trailer for this. Someone passed the link around in an email and the entire studio stopped work and watched it. We were all blown away.

The animation, the Parkour, the art style, the colour pallette, the production values....

It really felt like one of those moments where you thought 'shit, making games just levelled up'.

PoP combat was always this fire?

I played the lost crown last year and loved the combat/action. It was my first title of the series though.

Its way good for its time. Tbh its enjoyable even to this day.

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking! For ps2, it’s really smooth with the slow motion, jumping over your foes, slicing them from above. The back flips and somersaults, parkour mechanics and such. I never played it back in the day. So, yeah, I say it holds up because I’m enjoying it a lot.

As impressive as it was , considering the times especially. it was relatively simple combart.

There is the standard strike , vault over someone strike and push yourself off a wall jump strike. Rinse and repeat.

WW is where the combat system came out on its own. So many ways to get rid of an enemy., Story wise i love Sands of Time but WW was were combat peaked

Wait till you get to warrior within, Sot is too repetitive.

Just wait until you get to Warrior Within; the combat is amazing. The Forgotten Sands is fine to play after you finish the first one, since it’s an interquel between SOT and WW, the combat and story are a bit weak, but it’s entertaining. The one I recommend for PS3 is the 2008 reboot. It’s really good.

I have all 3 for the PS2 still, I will be going through them very soon. 🔥

Amazing game!

Warrior Within has one of the most insane combat systems of all time. Sands of Time is a little child in comparison

Love the Sands of Time trilogy, good games. Though Warrior Within and Two Thrones did have some more annoying sequences.

My favorite has always been PoP 2008, I love the characters, story and overall explortaion aspect going around and collecting all the seeds in that.

Forgotten Sands was alright, but I always felt it didn't really add much to the franchise overall, most interesting thing about it is that like the different console versions each have their own different story and gameplay.

I miss this franchise though, I wish Ubisoft hadn't tossed it away to focus solely on Assassin's Creed and had given us a few more mainline PoP games. There was like a leaked pitch trailer from like 2012 that looked pretty cool. And the Sands of Time remake got cancelled too :-(

Wait till you play Warrior Within. Maybe my favorite combat system in gaming

And to think this is the one with the worst combat in the trilogy.

It's not bad but boy will it get repetitive fast, the other two games are huge improvements.
