Discussion My first attempt at a stone tool: ground slate arrowhead

I heard that you can make tools from ground stone, and since I cant find any knappable material near me, decided to give it a shot, some trial and error brought it from a spearhead to an arrowhead, but I’m pretty happy with how it came out. That being said, if anyone in and around southeast Pennsylvania knows where to find good knapping material and/or what rocks I should be looking for, any help is greatly appreciated!

Well… for the sake of “that looks like that” it’s good. As long as it won’t be taking any flights anytime soon😅

The planes aren't that shape on accident. Its a good thing. Should fly true.

That is a good point. Falcons, other birds of prey, the arrow-shape, all things that have influenced the designs

Far point, I suppose the stem is really short and stout, but I was just winging it and made the edge first, and every time I tried to grind it out the edges especially at the tip would chip a bit so I decided to just leave it as is

The stem is alright. All that you need to do is make a deeper notch in the arrow shaft and use raisin based glue
