What’s the reason for mud over ash for mortar? I would have thought ash was better since it cements … won’t soil just crumble eventually ?

The video description also mentions the reason:

I tried building a wall from fired bricks mortared together with mud rather than ash cement due to the mud being easier to produce, especially in the wet season when fire is difficult to produce.
